Hi,
Had a little while to play with the new app on iOS (so glad there is support for Multichannel Spatial Audio!), but have noticed the following missing features/bugs that I didn’t see listed on the Documentation page.
UI/UX
- Pinch or tap to zoom is not working on iOS devices. Replaced with Display Options sub menu in 2025.14 and later
No PIP support, and when minimized or apps are swapped, content does not pause but rather audio continues to play in the background.Fixed in 2025.15No Portrait Mode supportFixed in 2025.14There is no codec or track information on the media title page (ie showing if an item is 4K/1080p or has Dolby Atmos/EAC3 5.1 or Stereo etc).Fixed in 2025.14No way to pre-select which track or quality you want to play back before you are watching the content. Ie if I want to enable a commentary track (of which I cannot see exists on the main item screen), I have to be in the movie itself to enable.Fixed in 2025.14- No option for playback information overlay, and no menu in the player itself to show playback information.
When marking items watched/unwatched from the library pages, the icons do not refresh until you leave and come back to the page.Fixed in public release- TMDB Ratings missing
No sleep timer.Fixed in public releasePlayer does not have 10 or 30 second scrub buttons.Fixed in 2025.14- 30 second skip forward button does not work in portrait mode.
Up Next counter may randomly skip episodes when playing TV.Fixed in 2025.14- Media preview thumbnails not shown when scrubbing timeline, and timeline touch target is small and not always responsive for scrubbing.
- Theme music does not play.
- Home Screen tab is not currently editable. Order slightly editable by reorganizing order in the Library ➜ Favorites menu. No full customization.
No option to remove an item from Continue WatchingFixed in 2025.14No “fast scroll” or “scroll by alphabet” option when scrolling through libraries.Fixed in 2025.15 for iOS, not present in tvOS- No ability to control “Automatic Quality Playback”
No ability to select which version to play if item has multiple versions available.Fixed in 2025.13You cannot mark TV episodes as watched/unwatched or play an episode form the Season screen. IE something like a long hold on an episode thumbnail should trigger a menu to Play/Resume, Mark as Watched/Unwatched, Download, etc rather than needing to load up the episode page in full every time. (Maybe something similar to how a long hold on a Movie item post works in the library would be viable here in the Season view for a TV Episode?)Fixed in 2025.13When tapping on the “View All” to see all content in a collection, for both Movies & TV shows, a random list of movies.shows is populating rather than the correct collection. However, on the actual Movie/Show page itself, the correct items are listed in the related movies/collection area, it’s only on tapping “View All” that things go awry.Fixed in public releaseNo way to exit back to media screen from “Next Up” screen after movie or episode ends.Fixed in public release- iPad Server order selection on Libraries not being respected on Home page.
- No season toggle on series that are not matched. Can only watch starting Season 00 (Features/Specials)
When scrolling through larger libraries, app begins to fail to load additional titles/posters, typically failing around 40 postersPerformance has improved with larger libraries since 2025.14
Subtitles
PGS Subtitles now force a Transcode when enabled (NOTE: Only if Audio Is Also Transcoding)Fixed in 2025.14- PGS Subtitles are sometimes out of sync with TrueHD audio.
SRT Subtitle track information is not reported back to Plex Server/Tautuli when SRT subtitles are enabled.Fixed in build 844 (Preview 7)3rd Party Subtitle Search is not available.Fixed in 2025.14SRT Subtitles no longer functioning consistantly on Direct Play. They do function on Transcode. New in Build 742 (Preview 3)Fixed in build 844 (Preview 7)- Subtitles become transparent when using non-tvOS default style/font New in Build 792 (Preview 5)
- Some subtitles are displaying HTML tags
HDR/DV
DV HDR and HDR metadata is not passed to client or tone mapped when transcoding. Transcoded media plays black “Flat” or “Log”.Looks to be fixed in Build 792 (Preview 5)DV Profile 5 content is not playing back properly. Green/Purple Effect.Fixed in 2025.14- Some iPad devices are unable to playback DoVI Profile 5 content. iOS DoVI profile 5 playback appears to be working.
Codec Support & Transcoding
When using the HEVC Transcode Preview server and forcing a transcode, UHD DV HDR media is transcoding to H264 instead of HEVC.Fixed in Build 792 (Preview 5)- 1080p SDR media is transcoded to 720 HEVC with no options to transcode to a lower bit rate 1080p copy.
- While there is multichannel Spatial Audio support, it does not flag as Dolby Atmos in the control center when Dolby Atmos (EAC3) tracks are present.
All Transcodes are being force to H264 when using the HEVC Server Preview. *New in Build 704Fixed in build 742 (Preview 3)- FLAC Stereo audio tracks are transcoding to OPUS Stereo tracks when video is transcoding, rather than direct streaming.
Live TV
- Personal Tuners are mostly non-functional in release 2025.15.
Personal Live TV Tuners not availableAdded in build 796 (Preview 5)Personal OTA Live TV Channels are hidden off screen until user swipes across Plex’s Guide, What’s On, and Favorite Channels. This may be working as intended. New in Build 796 (Preview 5)When Live TV is disabled on the Server, the app just displays a 404 error on that page.- No TV Guide Swipe Control
Metadata & Logos
- New Logos may be incorrect for localizations. IE for the movie “Airplane”, Plex shows the logo “Flying High”.
Series pages of personal media with custom art sit at a blank, black popover page. This doesn’t happen with TV shows with TVDB listings, so shows like The Simpsons appear as they should.Local extras may not always display.Fixed in Public ReleaseFixed in Build 704 (Preview 2), Regressed in Build 742 (Preview 3)Logos not loading consistently, or taking longer time to load New in Build 859 2025.5.0)Fixed in 2025.13
Downloads
- Some users are reporting issues with completing downloads on iOS, while others it is working normally.
- No ability to set auto download for new episodes like legacy app.
- Some users are reporting that download Quality settings are not respected.
- No detail on what download Quality settings mean… ie what is the Mbps of “High”, “Medium”, “Low”? What is the codec?
Misc
- Cannot connect to server via manual IP Address.
Minimum iOS requirement is iOS 16 New in Build 742 (Preview 3)New Min Requirement- Partial Airplay support through Airplay Screen Mirroring, but only video is mirrored and no audio is transmitted. As with casting, no in app Airplay support. Aspect ratios do not work correctly.
- App does not respect custom XML Client profiles
Version 2025.0 Build 686 is losing library connectionsFixed in Build 792 (Preview 5)Fixed in Build 704 (Preview 2), Regressed in Build 742 (Preview 3)- If a device’s network connection changes, such as Wifi to Cellular, or Cellular to Wifi, the app will freeze up and need to be force quit, even if no content is playing and the app is at one of the library pages. New in Build 742 (Preview 3)
- Personal Media Does Not Appear on “Home” Tab New in Build 796 (Preview 5)
Audio playback using iPhone Speakers has low volume and phone volume must be nearly maximized to hear. Affects multiple codecs and channel layouts (stereo, 5.1, 7.1). New in Build 792 (Preview 5)Fixed in Build 888 (2025.7.0)Plex Home Users are not prompted to login on app launch.Fixed in Build 2025.6.0 (888)
Discontinued Features Not Migrating to New App
- Watch Together: Discontinued per this announcement.
Over all though the app has been stable and playback does not have some other usual stutter that can be found with some iOS/Apple TV clients and UHD media, so that’s a big plus ![]()
Thanks!
