Would it be possible to set the transcoderaction parameter per PMS server instead of globally ? PlexConnect supports multiple PMS servers and some of them may not support transcoding, therefore DirectPlay should be advisable (instead of Auto) for these servers.
1) there is TWO settings - for local vs remote servers.
2) how does "direct-play" setting help on a low-powered server, when the media is NOT suitable for aTV?
Edit: We only have one "action" setting, but two bandwidth thresholds. Guess I mixed that up...
- My Syno can’t transcode. I have some videos that can be played with transcoderaction=DirectPlay but not with Auto. Probably this is a profile issue that sometimes triggers the transcoder when it’s not needed. Of course a more ‘clean’ solution would be to have an option on the PMS side to prevent the transcoder to be used at all in some servers
Hm... could you analyze the media info of those files? We can probably add something in PlexConnect to NOT transcode them...
The "transcoder action" is - in my opinion - more a debugging tool than for daily usage. :-)
