Hello, I know there are a ton of requests similar to this topic but I still want to ask. I am running a dated PLEX server that is in need of an upgrade. My current server is running Server 2016 and I have 8 X 8TB drives. I just had a second drive fail but they have been running for 8 years now. This time I do not want to build a huge storage array but just a small, super fast transcoding machine. I also have other family and friends steaming from my machine. I just wanted to throw one or two large HDD in this one but not a big RAID set up. What is a good, fast machine that will be future proof for transcoding and steaming from? Thanks to all!
What kind of budget are you looking at? Without that information people would just be throwing suggestions against a wall and seeing what sticks.
If you live near a microcenter I would grab one of their CPU/Mobo/Memory bundles. I paid something like $400 and I have a 12th gen i9 with 32GB RAM. I just add in another 14TB HD as needed. Honestly, it’s extreme overkill but at the same time it really didn’t cost that much more than just buying a cheap PC that is already dated and it’s definitely fairly future proof.
