New Server Install Overtaking Old Install?

Server Version#:1.42.2.10156-f737b826c
Player Version#: Web player 4.174.1

I am currently trying to install a new PMS while I migrate over from the old server. My old server is a Synolgy NAS and the new server is a small mini PC running Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS. After installation, I go to the server IP directly (not DNS) of the new server and l log in with my Plex account. After I log in it’s like Plex completely forgot about my old server. It no longer shows up in any of the players or on plex.tv.

If I disable the new PMS and reboot the old one, it will restore everything except I have to log in AGAIN with my Plex account to get back in. I remember setting up multiple servers in the past. Has something changed to explain this behavior? Is there some sort of network detection going? Is it impossible to have two servers on the same network?

Keep in mind I’m not trying to access these over the internet. This is strictly for local use.

If you migrated the server’s data directory and preferences, that’ll include the server’s unique identifier. So from the app’s perspective, they’re one and the same.
If you want to keep both active, you should remove the machine identifier references in the preferences.xml file of the new machine (while the server is stopped) – with that, on restart, the server should create a new machine identifier.

I probably should have clarified, I’m not doing a 1:1 migration. The new PMS install is a completely separate install, brand new. I’m just slowly moving some media over to it from the old server.

I did do a complete reboot of both servers (old server first and then new server). It seems to have calmed down and both servers are showing up now. I’m not sure what the issue was before. I’ll keep an eye out and see if I notice this behavior again.
