At $150 for the Shield “stick”/dongle, I’d say Roku and Fire stick people are in it for different reasons and don’t compare.
Nvidia should’ve shot for $120 range with this and those specs.
Just my opinion (and wish).

Good point @ price points. I suppose shield has and looks to continue to appeal to more to the hometheatre-phile (hd audio).

It’s nice that they appear to support DV, I would have rather prefer HDR10+ which ideally will supersede hdr+dv.

Yeah hopefully dual layered DV like the LG app.
Otherwise it’s currently pointless…outside of running the files through DVDFab to create single-layer. (Speaking totally from a Plex perspective.)

OMG.
I actually only just noticed the part about the remote being backlit and a lost remote feature.
I want, I want, I want…:grinning:

Lol, Harmony here. Couldn’t care less about the remote
Although more buttons means more functions also for the Harmony.

I have a harmony too. No idea why I fell out of love with it .

Maybe it’s a wrong one?

The Shield caters to an audience already accustomed to paying premium rates on dumbed down trash (Console Games) who have proven time and again they can’t shoot straight (auto-aim-llamas) with an almost unlimited amount of disposable hard currency on hand… The Targeted Plex Demographic.

LOL - I’m sorry, as a hard-core PC Gamer, I couldn’t help myself and I’m just kidding (kinda)…

Well it’s a Harmony Touch
Actually now I think about it It was probably when I switched my main usage to the AppleTV 4K.
I just really like that remote. Although just prior to that I replaced TV and upgraded my receiver.
So it was probably just laziness setting everything up again.
It’s on my to-do list later.

this is interesting- from an nvidia email

Motion-activated, backlit buttons—including Netflix and a user-customizable button

from the pictures I don’t see any extra button other than the netflix button, so hopefully that means the netflix button can be customized for something else.

also, we need more remotes with dedicated plex buttons.

git on it.

Interestingly despite Amazon.com jumping the gun on their web page, here in the UK they are taking pre-orders only (Nov. 9th) on Amazon.co.uk for the Pro. The tube is available for next day delivery.

I came to the same conclusion. That would be pretty sweet.

Also earlier, someone on Reddit who managed to get one early during the BestBuy fiasco mentioned that they tried John Wick 3 for me. Apparently using Plex on the Shield they got both the Atmos (albeit lossy) and Dolby Vision icons on their TV. So either…

A. The Shield can play double-layer DV in the same way as LG and some other TV’s can (without the limitations of the LG’s network incapabilities).

B. His file was created as a single-layer in DVDFab. Less likely as he said he got the file off the net and I haven’t seen any single-layer versions out in the wild.

I vowed I wouldn’t but I have.

OK. According to this it mentions the Netflix button and a customizable button separately or at least that’s how I interpret it.

I have also seen screenshots of both the left and right hand sides of the remote and none of those indicates it’s on either side. Very strange.

I would not be surprised if— netflix button (user customizable at some indefinite point in the future)

I’m really hoping it is the Netflix button.
Will report tomorrow. :grinning:
