New to plex looking for a server device and other?

I have plex on my NAS a Synology DS418play and it runs really bad especially movies that are in the x265 format and if it has to do transcoding forget about it.

From what i have read people say get a nvidia shield but which one? Will the 2015 model do 4k h265 vidoes? I only need one stream at a time maybe 2 once in a blue moon.

I would need a few TB of space so i assume you guys just hook up a USB drive to your shields? or pull it from your NAS.

My i7 6700k will max out transcoding a x265 video for a mobile device even but it can do it way better than my NAS.

I have UHD movies that are huge in size 76GB etc do you guys encode them to reduce the size?

Thanks for the help.

I find that the shield is a great client and an “ok” server.

I would recommend a PC with a nvidia card in it.

I have an HP z620 I got off of ebay for cheap with 2 procs and 24 cores total.
It has plenty of space to add drives. I am running linux with a ZFS array with 8TB in it. I dont have an nvidia card in it but it is still awesome.

The shield doesnt need to transcode anything so that makes it nice.

Here is a terminal window from my plex machine.

I am working on a new gaming PC so my current PC that has a i7 6700k could be used, i did not know that you needed a plex pass to enable Hardware Acceleration.

I have a RTX 2080 Super currently but that will go into my new PC so what budget card would be a good fit for the 6700k?

I normally part out my older PC to help pay for another but i still may try the shield because it seems very simple.

Thanks for the help.
