newb question cant i run other programs etc?

My mac mini just gave up so i purchased this Pi3 to run as a client to my Plex server running on a NAS.
BUT… i also want to do other stuff with the raspberry, running jythonscripts etc.
When i installed rasplex i just couldn’t find any way to go into a “desktop” mode and do other things than just using plex-client.

Is there someway to do this, or should one install linux on the Pi and then try to find some way to install a plex-client manually?
Can’t even find a build for Raspberry/linux on the Plex download site.

I don’t want a dual-boot
Thanks in advance, really would like to get this up and running with some desktop + plex client and option to install/run more software.

I’m in the same boat. Is there any way to do so, and without corrupting the Rasplex installation?

There is no Linux build of Rasplex, although Rasplex uses OpenELEC (Linux) as its OS, it is not a full Linux OS.

You cannot run any other Linux apps on Rasplex.

There is no ‘desktop’, no dpkg, no apt, the OS is ready only and uses SquashFS.

If you want to run other Linux apps get a second RPi.

Rasplex is not downloadable from the Plex Inc downloads page, worth reading up on Rasplex at rasplex.com.
