Newbie: How to download, store and replay Youtube videos

Hello,

I am totally new to plex and even not sure if this is the right category. I managed to get Plex Server running on Ubuntu and everything works fine.
My question: Is there a possibility (e.g. plugin) to choose a Youtube video, which is then downloaded and stored permanently on the Plex server?
I want to make offline playlists for my kids and stream them to Chromecast devices.

If there is such an extension, is there a tutorial for installation on Ubuntu?

Thank you very much in advance!

Regards

Unfortunately there is no such option or plugin.

An option for you could be to use one of the many YouTube downloaders to download the videos you want and create a Personal Media Movies library in Plex with those videos.

Alternatively, you can create a “movie” library and use my YouTube Metadata Agent to pull in metadata for the YouTube videos.

I wrote a little bash script that uses youtube-dl and can be run on cron. Using the plex extended scanner it will also add descriptions, and you can drop it local art for the folders and seasons easily enough with addition scripting.

sorroy to open an old post but is it still working ?

Dude why do you wanna go for add-ons? They really suck. Just use a video download website. I personally use tubegeter(dot)com. It’s free and you can also download entire playlists with it
