Newbie needs help

Hi all

I am a newbie here and this is the first time I have ever used plex or any kind of media share system so looking for some help.

I have an android tv box with an external hard drive attached and when I open plex it doesn’t find any of the files on the attached external drive. Is there a way I can get plex to look at my drive or do I have to do this via a pc/Mac?

Sorry for the really basic newbie question.

Cheers

Gary

The plex ecosystem consists of 2 main components:

  1. the Plex Media Server
  2. a Plex Client (or multiple ones)

For Plex to work you’ll need a working Plex Media Server which can be downloaded for different platforms from https://plex.tv/downloads (e.g. for Mac, Linux, Windows, various NAS’). There’s no Plex Media Server available for Android (let’s ignore Nvidia Shield as that’s kind of an exception).
Android TV boxes are more considered for playback – you can e.g. install a Plex for Android TV client which can then playback media from your server.

There’s a nice overview in the support section:

Thanks for the reply. I have set up the media server with my Mac and have directed it to my external drive for files and all appears to be ok. Just need to check I can connect to the server from android box and other devices now.

Thanks
