Newbie struggling to set up Plex, no media is viewable, only thumbnails

Lastly, nothing is playing on my PC via the Plex Media Server player. Not sure why that is.

Excellent. Now we are stable.

MPEG2 is not yet enabled for HW transcoding. We keep asking but Engineering has yet to enable it. That said, Anything short of an i3 -class machine will have trouble because it’s software-based (CPU) transcoding.

Please clarify? Does http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web not start up?

Ok. So a future update should fix the buffering…that’d be great. Any idea when that might happen?

Regarding my PC, its an Intel Core i7-4600 CPU @ 2.10GHz 2.70 GHz. And yes, I’m able to start PMS no problem. To access Plex Media Server, I’m opening it from the DSM interface and then trying to play videos. Is there a more efficient/faster way to do it? But I can’t manage to play anything currently. I get Playback Error/Streaming this media is unsupported

No idea whatsoever. We’ve been asking for a while now

So I’m in good shape in terms of watching my home videos on all devices, save the MP2 stuff on the TV (awaiting a update on that front). My last ask of you guys is to help me with playback on my PC via the PMS player. Any idea why that isn’t working?

PMS’s primary playback engine is the Web Browser. Unless you have a player (Roku/NUC/tablet) with the dedicated app, that’s how it’s done.

Regarding the media you want to play which fails. I presume this is these are the home videos?

Now that we’re running on the DS918+, I would like you to attempt to play it.
After it fails, capture the log files as normal.
Before you post the ZIP file, please get the media info for the file (either through ‘Get Info’ or ‘View XML’) and post that with it.

What PMS player? Are you taking about the web app or Plex Media Player?

ChuckPA, the playback on the PC fails with any video, regardless. So use the XML from the prior video. Attached is the PMS log including the latest 2 fails via PC.

Are you using the Web App or Plex Media Player? I suggest you use Plex Media Player as it will play everything and anything you can throw at it. The Web app is limited.

Achilles, is there an app for the PC that contains the Plex Media Player? I thought it only played via the web?

https://downloads.plex.tv/plexmediaplayer/2.3.0.774-ef2108c2/PlexMediaPlayer-2.3.0.774-ef2108c2-windows-x64.exe

Additionally on your Sony OLED, what version of AndroidTV are you running?

I’m learning something new every day now. As for the Android version of the TV, I’m not sure. The Kernal Version in the settings is 3.10.79 (Dec 13 2017)

Start the Plex app on the Sony and go to settings. It should overlay the version number at the bottom of the screen

Downloaded the actual player for the PC. Any video file will just show the thumbnail image but never start playing (just the spinning ‘I’m thinking’ icon).

Achilles, the version is 6.12.0.3239 (5ffd4fab).

That sounds very strange.

That is the latest version of the AndroidTV app. You have issues with it?
