NFO agent

I am currently using the NFO agent with great success, however, I have two small issues with it. My first is that it seems to only grab the first genre listed in the NFO file. Most all my movies have multiple genre tags so it would be nice for all the genres to transfer properly into Plex. The second question is that I would like to apply the NFO agent to a Personal Media source. I would like to add all my sources as personal media since I don’t want any online scrapping to happen for any of my files. I know that I can make this work by using Freebase and that my information should override any online lookups, but I still think it would be nice to apply the NFO agent to a Personal Media source.

Thank you for your excellent work on this NFO agent Harley Hooligan!

Not to start off a competition with Harley

But try my version of the agent - it’s capable of exactly what you describe…

See this post #286

No competition necessary. I pretty much have assumed you would be the new owner for some time. My interests have moved on, and I’d love to focus on other stuff.

That is great new MTI, thanks. I saw your post previously but didn’t realize that you had added support for multiple genre’s. Reading though your post again I do see that you can combine it with Personal Media sources which is exciting. I will give it a try later today.

The new NFO agent is great. It seems to be working properly for scrapping all the metadata I want except for two last items. The Directors is left empty along with the Writers. For Directors that should be a straight match for the directors tag in the NFO. I think the Writes info would match up with the credits tag.

If these two additions can be added I would be most appreciative. I am also curious if this NFO lookup metadata agent will become part of PlexOnline so it can be installed more easily in the future.

Please post an example of a NFO file that don't give you writer or directors with this agent. It is working fine for me with all tags.

This was promised (ooops I said it again - you are not allowed to even remotely criticize the dev team for being late with some of their promises) long ago. I feel that my version of the agent (again not trying to mock Harley at all, really) is stable and simple enough to be included... :)

Thanks again for all the help MTI. I will be happy to post one of my .NFO files. I use Media Companion with mostly default settings to scrape all my movies. I would imagine these are pretty standard XBMC NFO files as I know Media Companion is a popular program amongst the XBMC crowd.

No problem  Happy to help you…

Yeah, I use Media Companion myself, so maybe it is a code problem after all.

Sadly, I’m down with the flu, so I’ll be going to sleep now. In the morning, I’ll have plenty of time to take a look at your NFO file

No problemo MTI, thanks again for your help. Enjoy your rest and I hope you feel better in the morning.

OK, try this version then.

NFO (Movie).bundle.zip (4.2 KB)

BTW, it seems that the Media Manager has a bug: If there are more than one writer/director, it’ll only show one of the directors/writers. If you go to the Plex client, select the movie and press “i”, you’ll see them all (max 3 it seems).

MTI, trying your agent now and everything works well, thank you. Using it for a concerts/music section to scan my nfo’s (no imdb id) and in conjunction with local media assets, info and art picked up perfectly. As I’m on a Mac, is there a program like Media Companion for creating nfo files? I’ve searched and can’t find anything. My nfo’s contain basic information (title, year, summary, genre) so I just use a template created in textmate. Works okay, but a program would be nice. Thanks again. Cheers.

No problem, glad you like it and find it useful! :)

I don't think there is an Mac equivalent to Media Companion - believe me, I looked ;) Also, I doubt that there even exists a program on any platform that makes NFO files for audio content. But I'm not using Plex for music (I use iTunes instead), so I haven't looked into that. I wasn't even aware that the NFO agent could be used with music sections - but that's just great ;)

Let me clarify, the content is all video. Concerts, band biography's, etc. Thanks for replying.

Double post.

Thanks again MTI, that new NFO agent is working great for my movies collection.

Now the only part I am missing is adding all my TV Shows using their local artwork assets and .nfo files. Would it be possible to make a modification to your Movies NFO agent and turn it into a TV Show NFO agent? I would love to be able to add a personal source of TV Shows and have it show full metadata and artwork.

Kye, that’s just great!

I’ve had a plan to look at a TV Show version but this is quite a lot more complicated. Until I get the time, Harley has a version at page 1 of this thread, and I think it is working great. I’ll try to find the time to do my own version (basically cleaning up the code a bit like I did with the movie agent). BTW, I use online data for TV Shows - they are less prone to mismatchs in my experience (but if you need “personal” metadata, of course you are in a different situation).

Sorry to bother you all. I am testing Plex on a Windows machine before I do the big leap to .9 in my Mac Mini.

I was following your developments but I could use a brief step by step how-to-use this NFO agent. I have thousands of .NFO files so I want to make sure this works before upgrading from .8.

Is it too much to ask?

Thanks!

Just to clarify, my main concern is that I only got to select Freebase or Cine21 as scrapers. I installed the .NFO movies python code on the plugins folder but it does not show at all at the Media Manager, so I suppose I did anything wrong.

Strange thing is that Wikipedia.bundle, among others, appears in the plug-ins folder, but also does not show up when creating/updating sections.

Am I doing anything wrong? What do I need for the NFO scraper to appear there?

The only noticeable difference with Freebase is that these agents got a Resources folder, and a Info.plist file and VERSION files besides the Code folder.

Anyone can help?

Thanks!

Will these agents also work with PMS for Windows?

That's basically my question...

Or do I have to do anything special so they get recognized? I just copied the code folder...
