No access to plex.tv, and running plex server off the grid

Hi, if I purchase the lifetime Pro version will my Plex server work offline? I want to be able to stream to my mobile device from my Plex server where the server may not be able to reach plex.tv website. I can forward tcp 34000 to my Plex server so the mobile device will be able to connect to the public IP of the network where the plex server is homed.

Also, if I take my plex server to an off the grid vacation cabin, can I access the server without the ability for the server to auth to plex.tv?

This isn’t necessarily related to having a Plex Pass or not.
There’s an entire thread in the tips & tricks section on how to avoid server access failing because the internet is down.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any way to purchase a server license so there is no dependency at all on plex.tv? I would like my mobile app to auth directly to the plex server (as was the case when plex first started) I read the thread you linked and the only way I can get that to work is by using a VPN as it forces me to specify a subnet that is allowed without auth as well as use a browser. I would honestly pay several hundred for such a license, I just want my setup to be standalone, thanks.

The requirement for Plex.tv authentication is not something you can fix by buying something new from Plex. It’s just how it is.

If you already have internet access to talk to your home server, why is also connecting to Plex for authentication a dealbreaker? All Plex will know is that you are using your Plex server. They don’t know what files you are watching.
