No difference between fr-FR and fr-CA subtitles

Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492

Hi ! A lot of my mkv have different subtitles in them, including regular french and canadian french.
The canadian one is, in my opinion, properly labelized.
In MKVtoolnix : Language French(fr;fre) ; Region Canada(ca;124). Those parameter automatically labelized it as French (fr-CA) (+track name “Canadian”, but I doubt Plex will care about this)

However, Plex completely ignore that, and choose instead the lowest french subtitles ID.
It’s weird as there’s both French and Canadian French in Plex subtitles preference.

Am I doing something wrong ?
Thanx !

Do you have a means to extract the SRT subs from your MKV container?

Just for a test:
Put the SRT files beside the video file.
Give them the exact same file name as the video file (save the file name extension of course).
Insert the language and region before the file name extension.
e.g.

My Movie Title (year).mkv
My Movie Title (year).fr-CA.srt
My Movie Title (year).fr-FR.srt

Refresh Metadata of this movie.

When you test the automatic audio/subtitle stream selection, you can only use a video where the subtitle or audio stream selectors haven’t been “touched” manually yet. Because a manual selection is always remembered and used futher on.

P.S.: here is what I use on Windows for extracting elements from a MKV file

It requires MKVtoolnixGUI to be installed. (which you should have already anyway  )

Hey ! Sorry for the late reply but I didn’t have enough material to test on.

I tried on 3 different episodes, and it always picked French (Canadian) as default subtitles.
I even tried to switch to French (Canadian) in my settings, to test if it was a name swap issue but it wasn’t the case.

Maybe the automatic selection doesn’t read the last letters (-FR // -CA) and choose the canadian one as it’s the first one alphabetically ?

That appears to be the case, I’m afraid.

So… Is this going to be fixed some day or not ?

A little update : Some files I have had the truefrench one before the canadian one
(text#9 : French – text#10 : French(Canadian))
In that case, the truefrench one was selected by default.
It seems it’s just the first one that is selected, not the canadian one.

Still, the issue remains.
