Defualt language/subtitles of MKV files - Plex ignores them

Sorry, not sure which is which.

I have a huge collection of Japanese anime MKVs in which I’ve taken the time and effort to set the default language to Japanese and the default subtitles to English. Every video player I’ve ever used recognizes this and works.

But Plex always plays with English language and no subtitles. I have to manually change it every time a new video loads, which is very annoying.

Is there a way to use the MKVs defaults instead of Plex mucking around with them?

I have the Languages settings set thusly:

Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks: No
Prefer audio tracks in: None
Subtitle mode: Always enabled
Prefer subtitles in: English

This should work, right?

Thanks.

There is unfortunately not.
If you disable the automatic track selection, Plex will simply use the first audio track and no subtitle.

Wow. That’s really surprising.

Thanks.

Just so I have this right… I’ll be forced to manually change the subtitle selection every time I load up a new episode in a series? Did someone do that on purpose?

Yes.

Alas. K, thx. I’ll shut up now.
