No DNS requests received ?

OK - Complete plex connect newbie here so apologies is this is something daft. In fact new to PLex as a whole but it's looking good so far.

ATV3 on 6.0

Media server running a Windows Server 2012 box where I'm trying to run PlexConnect

Media server also running a Win7 box where I first tested it.

Installed plexconnect and python. Certs have been created and installed using the iPhone configuration method.

Here's the log from the plexconnect script

And then it  just sits there.

I've triple checked the DNS server on the ATV to be 192.168.0.44 and I think the DNS server has started ok.

I've searched the forums so apologies if it's something daft.

Instinct is telling me the problem is Firewall on the Windows Server 2012 server but I even temporarily disables the firewall and still no joy.

Have you tried accessing Plexconnect by going into the trailers app? It doesn’t request anything until you do.

Not even getting that far - when the ATV starts Im only getting the Computers and Setting icons which I presumed was because it wasn't getting a internet connection.

Just go to settings change back the dns ip and put your router ip. Go to menu wait to show the channels and then go again at settings change the dns with the ip of plexconnect

This is not the solution. PlexConnect is set up to allow access to the internet - all, but trailers.

Did you add those rules to the firewall? I know you said it is disabled, but you never know with Windows...

Latest update -

Banged plexconnect on the win7 box and the DNS service worked (separate port errors on the web servers but that didn't worry me as won't be running  plex-connect there)

Having disabled the CORRECT firewall profile on the 2012 Server -  I can now get plex-connect working.

I'd like to work out exactly which rules it needs so I might keep digging and document in this thread the rules required under Server 2012 rather than just disabling firewall.

Inbound TCP and UDP rules for Python.exe should do it

Inbound TCP and UDP rules for Python.exe should do it

Yep. That did the trick.

For anyone else with the same issue

  • Start Windows Firewall with Advanced Security from the Start Screen.
  • Click on Inbound Rules in the left panel.
  • Click on New Rule... in the Actions panel.
  • In the New Inbound Rule Wizard, select Program.
  • In the next screen, Under This Program path click on Browse and navigate to the Python executable, select and press Open.
  • Click Next
  • Leave the default as allow the connection and press Next
  • Select when the rule applies (you can leave all 3 ticked) and press Next
  • Give the rule a name and click Finish.

Thanks all.

I can’t get this to work. I added the local ip address of my pc running plexconnect as my primary dns server on my iphone but now I can’t access any website and I get no messages in plexconnect about requests…

iPhone? Why iPhone?
