I have a Philips 55" LED UHD TV (modelnumber 55PUS6501/12)
And i have no issues getting HDR from any other source connected to the TV (like PS4 Pro as an example)
Im using a Nvidia Shield Pro (not the new version), and its connected to HDMI 2 (also tried HDMI 1 since those two are the only onces that supports UHD/HDR for some reason)
The media im trying to watch in plex is, without a doubt, in HDR.
The media is direct playing. no transcoding, either audio or video is being done in plex.
So, why am i not getting HDR in Plex?
What am i missing?
Which version of Plex for Android TV do you have installed on the Nvidia Shield of yours?
Can you enable the display information (Nerd View in some newer versions) and confirm the video is recognized as HDR?
If i click HDR in plex on that device i get a message saying something like “No filters could be found for HDR”.
But if i do it on some other device (or my PCs plex app) they all show up.
im on the latest (i think since im auto updating). its version 8.0.1 (32.5.205.75)
Couldnt find any “Display information” or “Nerd view” in the android tv OS settings.
Or are you talking about the setting in the plex app? If so, ive been using that the whole time. As i said in my first post. when something is playing i can check at the top left when showing the overlay, it says “direct play”. But no mentioning of HDR there, if thats what you mean.
That’s the overlay I was going for…
Considering it direct plays the movie you should investigate the scenario chenks proposed (Plex not recognizing your file to be HDR in the first place)
Any ideas or suggestions on how to do that?
Since NONE of the movies seems to show when choosing HDR in the filter.
Or the filter isnt working? Since it says “No filters could be found for HDR”. It cant find the filter to be used?
If i use the new experimental player instead of the old player, i get a little HDR icon in the bottom right when playing a HDR movie. Not sure if that tells me it actually playing in HDR or not though, since usually the TVs overlay pops up a little box saying “HDR active” or something like that. And its not doing that now..
The icon implies it’s actually playing HDR content. I’m not familiar with the Shield in general. Are there any settings for the device itself how to output 4K/HDR to a connected TV?
In the Nvidia Shield? Not that i know of or could find in the settings menus anyway.
By the way, if checking the “HDR” in the filter, it still just shows a box saying “no filter for HDR could be found”. Though i dont care about that, i just want it to actually play in HDR; i thought id mention it…
i just created the whole library and added the movies like 2 days ago, i doubt a re-analyze will change anything.
But ill try it when i have the time. Though that isnt my main concern, i really dont care if they show up in a filter as HDR or not. i only care about it actually playing in HDR.
