Best I can tell is can’t be done for now. Supposed to be an issue with the linux kernel and this processor. Only solution would be for Asus to update the software (including the kernel) to something that allows Plex to work properly. I think Docker uses the host kernel (I don’t know much about Docker) so you can’t just use a container. You could use Virtualbox if you have the resources and willing to give them up. Last you might be able to hack in your own kernel update but I’m not willing to do that (yet) so I haven’t looked into it. Read everything I typed assuming I’m the village idiot.
Hello,
Do you think there will be fixed in future version of Plex ? (I use docker version).
it’s nearly a month that the issue is identified.[quote=“anon18523487, post:12, topic:814130, full:true”]
Ah, we’ve identified the issue. That Intel N5105 is a Jasper Lake architecture. That architecture doesn’t have something we need to make HW transcoding work. This didn’t work in previous builds and this preview build is no different.

Do you think you can fix the kernel ?
Oh, this is not reassuring…
If it’s up to Asustor to fix this, I’ll think we’ll wait some time…
But I can ask them about this issue…
Plex’s stance is they can’t fix it because it’s an issue with the underlying Linux kernel. The kernel devs swapped out the video driver in a recent release that breaks HW transcoding. That may be true or it may be that Plex simply doesn’t have time or desire to rewrite their code for one series of CPUs to match that driver. I don’t know which. I am new to prebuilt NASs so I have no clue how often Asus updates the base software. I would assume not that often because that would take a significant amount or time and testing.
I am quite disappointed. I have taken the stance that I wasted my money. I did tons of research before I spent the $900 on the Asustor with 2 drives and maxed memory. I chose it specifically for the HW transcoding capability. Not much I can do at this point but to move on and hope that some day it magically starts working or spend countless hours pouring over forums hoping their is an easy fix hidden under the hood. The NAS is working great for all other tasks and I am happy with that.
Hello,
Asustor should fix this issue with the next adm version :
Posté dans le sujet ‘Plex Docker : transcodage non fonctionnel avec CPU intel Celeron N5105’
Asustor - [Résolu] Plex Docker : transcodage non fonctionnel avec CPU intel Celeron N5105 | Forum des NAS : Synology, Qnap, Asustor...
That sounds good, we only must wait for the next adm update hope it takes not to long
I urge the person who told me that to tell me a date of release, or an approximate date ![]()
but he don’t answer… I hope he will soon ![]()
Looking at the changelog it appears that they push minor updates every month or so and it’s about time for another push. Let’s hope we get a kernel update soon.
Does anyone already know when the update is coming?
December 14th is the release target.
I can confirm that the update is live ![]()
And it seems to have solved the problem :

Hourra !
My plex server is now on the AS ^^
I just tested myself and working great. TY! Great work Asus and Plex.
