I have a weird scenario. I have a friend who has no Internet. I have a laptop with an external hard drive with tons of media on there for her. I was planning on installing Plex on the laptop w/ the local hard drive and then connecting the laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable. Obviously I need the Internet to get all the metadata for the tv shows and movies. If I get all that beforehand… will this work or will Plex not function correctly without the Internet? I thought about Kodi (since it apparently works without the Internet) but the naming structure for the files is a real pain in the a$$.
Since I know Plex works fine without internet as long as everything is set up first and you do not require security or any features that require a Plex Pass. What you want do do should work just fine.
The easy test would be to get it all setup and then disconnect from the internet, restart everything and see what happens.
Edit: I would also note that I have found that any naming/structure that works well for Plex also works well for Kodi.
