So my parents have no internet as they live way out in the country. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a good setup for them. I would love for them to be able to use plex to view movies, allowing me to share with them my ripped collection without having to leave them all my dvds/blurays. Will plex work without an internet connections, assuming you used a connection to sync up and get the metadata, and if so what would be a good “box”/machine for acting as a plex server that I can hook a external drive to with my ripped films for them. I know I would have to set it up and sync metadata where I had the connection, just was hoping they would be able to access and view offline. Hope this makes sense and appreciate any help.
Plex completely without internet is a challenge. Although possible, it requires more effort on your side. You’d need to fetch posters and other metadata yourself and supply them together with the video file.

Then you’d need to install some 3rd party metadata agents which do read those metadata into plex’s internal database.
