Yesterday my brilliant ISP decided to can my connection for a day. When I went to use Plexconnect last night it wouldn't work. Generally just timed out although once or twice it did actually start.
Looking in the log there are a lot of entries like this:

Given we had no Internet none of these requests were going to work.
Is there any way of making Plexconnect work when the Internet is down?
Not unless you have a jailbroken ATV and can use the add site hack; the reason being is you need internet even to get the standard Apple ATV apps appear.
This is something I am confused upon my self. Why cant we make plexconnect trigger the appletv to load trailers at the least. This kind of ties into the url’s the Apple TV seeks out when I first boots up. If you had a way to temporarly give your appletv internet via a hotspot then remove the hotspot I belive the apps will be confused and stay on giving you acess to plexconnect assuming you dont have a atv2 on ios 5.x jailbroken.
Would having no internet access also affect the ability to just open the media manager? My internet is down at the moment and after reading this thread, I realise that I cannot get PlexConnect to work, I thought I'd just be able to still access by media, but I can't.
Your media manager like plex web? If yes, then no since your internet is down pms is down and plex web and everything else will not work. Plex web may work locally but plexconnect will not unless you have a jb atv2 like f00b4r stated prior.

Cool thanks. Yes, my media manger... I meant plex web. I thought it might still work.
Looks like I'll be waiting a few days for internet to come back on.
I don't see why Plex/Web would not work... if you local Network is up and your PMS doesn't "require authentication", everything (but the aTV) should be golden.
I had the issue with media manager being unavailable when I moved and my new internet connection had not been setup, I don't require local authentication either. Seemingly indicates that PMS needs an internet connection (or there is some setting I've missed) and so cannot do LAN only. Anyway, not a plexconnect issue.

Yes it's very strange. I don't believe my PMS requires authentication, but how can I check this?
I thought of a few temporary solutions. Create a hotspot if you can connect your atv to the hotspot via wifi to get the apps to populate on the atv. Once all the apps load connect back to your normal ethernet or wifi then do the normal manual dns to hijack your app. Only downfall is once you reboot/restart your atv you will need to redo the hotspot to load everything again. Or temporarily connect to a open neighbors wifi. Or bring a backup power supply with you to a working internet connection then plug in the atv then bring it back home after the apps load. Run a extension cord to your neighbors connect to their internet then bring it back home but leave it plugged in to the extension cord so you dont lose power/populated apps.

The practicality/hassle of some of these suggestions could be seen to be a little um a bit much
Just throwing it out there as a temporary solution to not having internet. Its a bit much but defiantly possible in each way if someone wanted to go thru all that.

I would never have thought of that, not in a million years...Genius !!!
