Thanks, I’d been wondering about this! Will give this a try and see how it goes this evening.

Just a workaround… With tvOS profile mi ATV3 sometimes get frozen… I merged info from IOS.XML profile and tvOS.XML profile from Plex to create a net ATV3.XML profile wich seems to work fine on my devices…So the two lines on PlexAPI.py should be:
line 478: xargs[‘X-Plex-Platform’] = ‘ATV3’
line 479: xargs[‘X-Plex-Client-Platform’] = ‘ATV3’If anyone want to test, or improve the profile, it can be downloaded from here:
GitHub - mgoreiro/ATV3-PLEX: Plex profile for AppleTV3 devices using PlexConnect
Feel free to leave comments and improve!
Please…where is the xml-file to download? On the git there are only readme and License.
Have you tried the ‘answered’ solution presented on page one, 2nd post?
Yes…If i change the profile in my ATV3 in TvOS, he plays nothing any more

I had a problem where i could only get stereo and no 5.1 sound using Plexconnect. It used to work flawlessly.
I spend a little time digging around, and found a solution to my problem.
I edited the PlexAPI.py file and changed ‘iOS’ to ‘tvOS’ in the lines below. After this my sound is back to working.line 478: xargs[‘X-Plex-Platform’] = ‘tvOS’
line 479: xargs[‘X-Plex-Client-Platform’] = ‘tvOS’I do not know if this helps you, i just thought it might.
Awesome! I had 3 Apple TV3 and was very upset that all started playing with 2.1 audio. I was thinking of getting new AppleTV when I came across this post. THANKYOU!!! SAVED ME $$$$$$$$$

Did you unload plexconnect on the mac before changing the data or doesnt that matter?
I changed this while plexconnect was running. I had to reinstall plexconnect and plex.

I figured out why it didn’t work for me. I opened the PlexAPI.py file with the mac text editor. After saving the file with the changes something was saved in a wrong way and my plexconnect got stuck.
I downloaded a python file editor and used that to save the setting. After that my ATV3 has dolby again! Thank you so much! I’m still fairly new to a mac so for me this editor thing took me some time to figure it out.
Hi,
Since updating to 1.5.3.3580 of Plex yesterday, this fix does not work anymore for me. If I put tvOS, I have no sound at all. If I put back iOs, I’m back with Stereo sound only.
Anyone having the same issue?
THanks

Suggest you post in a new thread since this thread indicates it’s been positively answered
will do that, thanks
Yeah this update has broken surround sound transcodes for me too. Anything that has a DTS soundtrack really. Except it’s worse because instead of plain stereo with it set to tvOS, I get no sound output at all(!) on those movies with a DTS soundtrack. AAC surround seems to be unaffected.
Switching the attribute back to ‘iOS’ I now get stereo PCM through at least, but surround sound no more…
There is a new PlexConnect version in github. After installing it you can remove the following temporary fix (only for those that have applied it):

- Locate your PMS data directory
- Create a new Profiles folder
- Download the attached file to the newly created Profiles folder
- Restart PMS so that it gets aware of the change
