I downloaded the plex server onto my windows 7 64bit desktop PC and bought the app on my iPad.
I want to stream videos from put.io using the put.io app.
How can I do this? I can add and access channels on the iPad, etc, listen to music by adding folders on my desktop, but I never bought it for any of that.
I’d really appreciate any help.
p.s. I don’t have an apple computer of any sort, just an iPad
You can use channels for sure! Just go to the channels (what we used to call plug-ins) tab on the iOS app, and click on the [+] button to add more!
But put.io requires a plugin to be installed afaik
That’s what the ‘+’ will do - install the plugin/channel on the Plex media server you are connected too!!
Give it a go…
yasss…found put.io.
cheers guys, love uz, I was just making it more complicated than it needed to be, so channel and plugin are synonymous?
Although one thing I don’t understand is why my computer has to be on for me to watch channels from online. I am not wanting to stream any media from my PC, just from online, so it is a bit of a pain having to switch the computer on, or keep it on! I’m new, so wondering if the PC has to be on regardless?
Also, there seems tol be some sort of glitch or problem because when I went to categories and TV and scrolled down to n/m, it crashes and closes
The sam happens when I go to Media type and Video, when I scroll down and reach m/n, it closes!
Is this problem exclusive to me or is it common?
Also, when I try to play videos, it says "Couldn’t play video@ or it spends an age loading Just when I thought it was all sorted.
I have youtube, 4od, put.io, apple trailers, MTV installed
As I understand it, streaming of Flash or Silverlight videos from PMS on windows is not currently supported. That would explain the issue with ‘Couldn’t play video’. I believe the dev team are working on a solution. I’m not familiar with the crash due to library scrolling. I would suggest checking for an existing thread in the iOS subforum. If one doesn’t already exist, start one.
oh, ok, thats kinda pointless then :(
I have no idea how this syetm works but will it ever be possible to stream media content direct to the iPad without the need of a media server on a Mac or Windows computer? I don't understand exactly how all this works, but seeing as the media I want to access is online, I don't see why my PC needs to be on and running the Plex media server?
I probably sound like a right noob
Hope something gets sorted soon and I am not dissing Plex, I am sure it is amazing if you can work it to its full potential!
No, the iOS app is strictly a client for the Plex Media Server running on your Mac/Windows PC. Whether you’re streaming local content or web content, the Server needs to be running.
