No response from Plex Devs!?

I have removed my joke “Fight Club” image because it’s obvious nobody got it.
I will apologize if my humor wasn’t understood. It was meant as a joke. GEEZ!
I’m a paying user just as you are. I just happen to find helping others enjoyable. Should it no longer be enjoyable, I’ll address it at that juncture.

Now, to be all “Plex” and put my “team” hat on.

  1. The devs only come in here when we ask them too. Before asking them, it is our responsibility to verify the issue, define it clearly, and collect the information in as concise a manner as possible. As ninjas, we have the additional burden of replicating your issues if at all possible. If we can replicate it, it is on us to create the most direct method to recreate it. Having done this, we document it in the problem writeup we submit to them. What you don’t see is the amount of leg work we do behind the scenes checking and cross checking against other problems and yes, we sometimes make a mistake / overlook something.

  2. The ‘benefits’ of Plex Pass are spelled out here: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201751006-Plex-Pass-Feature-Overview

  3. While there is complaint of being 'paying beta tester", preview releases are often less than 100% perfect. That’s why they are preview or beta. Plex Pass versions are superseded / withdrawn in favor of a version with the correction when so warranted. If this is not palatable to you, then don’t run the Plex Pass version.

Lastly, Repeating my initial post in this thread with greater clarity.

  1. What OS / platform? If it’s Linux or Synology, those are my support areas. I have forum notification turned on for ALL new threads in those sub-forums. If I missed it somehow, show me where I missed it. I’ll apologize for being human, and then help get it resolved if I can’t resolve it myself. If not either of those but I still can resolve it, I will.

  2. Give me the links to the problem as reference in the OP.

I think there is a little confusion going on. I’m not saying that we don’t want to help our members, I’m just saying, if you are not getting an answer in a thread and want to invoke your “Plex Pass”, post a message in the Plex Pass forums and say something along the lines of “Can I get some help with this other thread I posted?” with a link. This way we can spot them easier.

For the OP, I still don’t know which thread you need help with.

@NVader2000

Per your OP this thread. Links???

Currently this are my two high priority issues.

Thank you.

That is super clear, thank you.

Could you possibly add that information to a sticky here? It would really help paying people know where to turn.

OMG, there must be a better way… before we know it the forum will have hundreds of post ‘Can I get some help with this other thread I posted?’.
At that point people will be less likely to help because you won’t kow the issue upfront and will have to drill into many links/post.

To be fair, this forum already seems to be 99% tech support threads.

@PlexDevs

I have seen this sort of thing happen before to companies that create a great product but lack of proper development practices and customer centric policies kill them.

I am seeing all those signs starting here in Plex.

In business I learned PAYING customers come first and the Customer is ALWAYS right.

Seems us little guys that pay for Plex are sorta left in the lurch.

Again… Please tell me what Plex Pass REALLY gives us except being able to get BETA releases??
Is that really an advantage??

To be honest not one of those is of any real importance to me. I am in the “Plex Cloud” beta but I would not miss it if I were not.

Having said that I think my lifetime Plex Pass is about the best technology related purchase I have ever made and one of my best life choices as well. The only better life choice I can think of was back in 1972 (or maybe 4) I was attending the Louisiana St. fair and I declined to wrestle a medium sized alligator. By that I did loose my best chance at a Darwin award but we can’t have everything.

I do think Plex has shown that they are VERY good at getting people to do things they really do not want to do. I cannot think of another company that have convinced their customers to pay for the privilege of beta testing or sometimes, as with Plex Cloud, even alpha testing. Calling Plex Cloud in its current state a beta test does not make it one.

It is like the children’s riddle:
Q: How many legs does a dog have if you call a tail a leg?
A: Four. Calling a tail a leg does not make it one.

So your saying plex is expensive or a different model is required?

I feel it’s great value with a modern UI/eye candy. That makes my 21st century TV experience, enjoyable, professional, simple, organized, enjoyable, sharable, entertaining. $40 a yr the price of a great bottle of red wine. CHEAP

I do not know how you got that from my post. I said it was one of the best technology related purchases I have ever made. That does not imply “expensive” at all nor does it imply Plex needs a different model.

All I said at all negative about Plex was that “Plex Cloud” was premature and calling it a beta was a mistake. It is too unstable to be considered a beta.

I also said that Plex has convinced their Plex Pass users to pay to be beta testers. That is not necessarily bad, it is just unusual.

I love my Plex but that love is not blind and Plex is not perfect and Plex (the company) has made some moves/choices that are simply perplexing at best.

No, what needs to happen is dedicated PAID support staff to step up and take over the lion’s share of the support that people like @Elijah_Baley and so many others have been doing. People that can get direct feedback right to the developers, instead of a host of volunteers that MIGHT get a developer to drop in.

Keep in mind, the Ninjas are VOLUNTEERS, too. They aren’t paid, unless it’s with information to upcoming bug fixes, or real early access to even more code not quite ready for prime time.

@Elijah_Baley in case you look at my recent posts, I’m even more frustrated now than I was when you and I were in that very first video conference together. Things are spiraling way out of control now, IMO… NONE of the issues I raised then have had any sort of resolution in the time since April. Not one. I bounced ideas off of several people before I went to that, and it was a waste of everyone’s time as far as I’m concerned. Some of the people I asked for input aren’t even active on the forums anymore, they are so fed up… I hope things are looking better as far as your list of wants from then goes…

I signed up for the first one in December, but given the topics I wish to discuss: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1302959/#Comment_1302959 I don’t expect to get the invite…

Unfortunately, Plex is not financially able to support a whole staff of people to watch the forums.

Since my main two point of focus were user choice and improved Plex communication then NO my wants/desires/wishes have not been met! Plex has not improved communication and the user choices in the various apps I use has declined.

I believe that the direction Plex has taken will result in:

  1. Every app looking and feeling like all the others which means that anything that is not possible in any one app will be removed from all the others or never incorporated into them in the first place.
1a. The best developers of the apps will have to, and it appears have, dumb themselves down so those with less talent or working on inferior products can keep up.
  2. We will be, and are, subjected to things that Plex “thinks” we want without ever finding out if a good number of people actually want them.
  3. Things will get broken because of 1 and 2.
  4. The communication will get worse because Plex does not want to hear any negative feedback.

I hope I am wrong but I do not think I am.

It is good for Plex that their only real competition, EMBY, is so poor. Plex has flaws but, at this time, there is nothing even close to being as good.

I, too, do not expect an invite to any future conference as I think Plex would just like to believe they are pleasing their user base. It is like “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and Plex cannot see that they have every wart exposed to the world.

Of course it keeps him from being pinged. Why else would he do it?
