I have TV shows and music synced to my phone, but none of it is visible after updating to the latest beta.
When I go to “Sync status” I see it all. Also, Plex knows that storage space is being used; I have 15 gigs free out of 30 available.
From the top, I choose my device with “Local and synced content” in the subtitle. When I use the flyout/hamburger menu on the left I see home, open video file, camera roll, watch later, recommended, and settings. There are no libraries for my synced content.
Clicking on Home, it says I don’t have any content and need to connect to a server.
I’ve tried:
- closing the Plex app by swiping it away
- force-stopping Plex in settings
- rebooting my phone
Everything was working perfectly before the last update. Anyone else have this issue? Maybe you have some tips to solve it?
I’m seeing the same thing. I came across this when I went to put music on during my ride home from work. I have Project Fi so I use synced items to help control my data usage. The app “thinks” the synced items are there because it’s not re-syncing the content and if I got into the settings and select “Sync status” in the app, it shows “synced items” and it still shows all my music. However, the “Music” section isn’t showing when I select “local and synced content” instead of selecting my Plex server.
@roflharrison any idea on this?
6.5.0.1776 does not fix this.
In https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/comment/1507212/#Comment_1507212 the user re-synced everything and it worked. That said, I’m not sure everyone is going to want to re-sync when 6.5.x goes live!
Hey @tylerversion2 and @johnny15 , sorry to hear you are having problems with the app. In order to investigate it, could you upload some logs?
Thanks in advance!
Attached are my logs.
Another thing to note is that upon upgrading, my phone’s name reverted to “OnePlus 3”, when I had previously named it “Tyler’s OnePlus 3”. (I know I have a OnePlus 3T. I was too lazy to go add that T on the end. Don’t judge me.)
I would grab my logs but the “Email Device Logs” in the settings doesn’t appear to be there on my phone (Settings > Advanced > Privacy > Email Device Logs). To go along with @tylerversion2 there’s more things that went on with this beta release. I believe my device name reverted as well and the app shortcuts that I put in different places on both my phone and tablet were removed. It’s been a while since I’ve seen this many bugs with an app release.
@johnny15 it’s under Settings -> Help & Support -> Debugging -> Share debugging data
Personally, I think it’s an improvement. It was kind of weird under Privacy before.
@jesusMC 6.5.0.1820 does not fix the issue. Logs attached.
@jesusMC 6.5.0.1895 does not resolve the issue. Logs attached.
If there’s anything else I can do to help resolve the issue, let me know. I’m happy to run a debug version of the app with extra verbose logging or try things with a plex dev in real-time - i’m perfectly comfortable at a console and have adb
installed.
I deleted my sync after installing 6.5.0.1895 and tried to redo it. It got to 50% and stopped. So either way (leaving the old content or trying to recreate what I had before), synced content is really messed up right now.
I’ve tried 3 times now to recreate my synced content that I had before. It continues to hit 50% and stops syncing. This is extremely frustrating.
Has anyone at Plex actually tested syncing content? Is it an Android app issue or a server side issue? I’m trying to sync my entire Music library (well, the entire library I’ve moved into Plex so far) and it’s only 303 albums and 1070 tracks. I use the “Original” option when syncing because my library is manageable from a file size perspective and I have more than enough space available on my phone.
I had to completely uninstall Plex on my phone and reinstall it before I could get synced content to work again. Hopefully this doesn’t become a trend with each app upgrade…
@jesusMC 6.5.0.1961 does not resolve the issue. Logs attached.
@jesusMC Not having music on my daily commute is excruciating.
I’m happy to pop open Skype or Slack on the weekend or in the evening (EST) and work with a Plex dev directly. I really want this fixed. Hell, my background is mostly PHP, but I’d crack open Android Studio and muddle through the code myself if I had to…and you gave me access to the code
You did it. You blew it up. You released 6.5.x with a sync bug.
Why even have the beta program if you ignore your users and release software with broken features anyway? This isn’t a little glitchy…it’s flat-out broken. Destroyed. Dead.
Great job, everyone!
I completely agree with your frustration. That’s why in one of my previous comments, I asked if anyone from Plex actually tested synced content. It’s not as if there’s different ways to create the synced content (at least for music…which is what I’m referring to in this thread). Pick the content, pick the quality and the number of items and let it sync. I’m not sure how they couldn’t have seen this issue and why the constant “send your logs” canned responses. Talk about alienating people that not only love the product (since we want beta access) but also pissing people off that are doing some of your work for you by testing betas and reporting issues!
@johnny15 right!? I want to help make the product better and I get ignored. Hopefully the threads popping up in the main Android forum show just how badly they fucked up.
When marketing deadlines become more important than functionality, it marks the beginning of the end for a technology company.
If your code isn’t ready for release, don’t ■■■■■■■ release it. I’ve worked agile environments - we never released code when we knew there was a core problem that would cause major issues. In agile, some minor bugs can be tolerated - you fix them in the next sprint. Major ones must not be ignored, no matter who is pushing you to release. You grow a pair and push back. It’s your integrity as a developer. It’s your name on the product. It’s your job on the line when the company folds because you literally pissed off the entire user base.
If Plex doesn’t get their act together, another company will swoop in with software that actually works, even without DVR, local playback, etc. and Plex will be just another failed software company due to mismanagement and weak developers.
