Noob - Some questions

Hey all,

Since I am new on PLEX, have plexpass, but now I have stumbled upon some troubles. The learning curve of settings everywhere is steep, but since I play EVE online, I like to read a lot, I found a lot (google!), and fixed several things. I found the standard format list for episodes, found the force renew (deepscan), but a few series still don't indexed the right way,

The Newsroom / The Practice - not recognized for meta data, but sorted right  Found the Manual Option, both fixed now.

Stargate Series - I have stacked the series double deep, can I exclude the folder from the Series folder, and then just index the sub-folder separately?

Dutch Series - I am native dutch, and have some series that are on IMDB and stuff, but don't register in plex, can I manually connect a folder to such sources to get metadata downloaded?

Thx all.

It isnt just the folder structure that is important.

Are the files named correctly?

Sxx.Exx ?

Good you ask again, in 1 folders they were not, now changed, and removed the sub-layer... moved them all to main dir, now rescanning.

The scanner can really be quite fickle. I downloaded the first 3 episodes of Penny Dreadful last night. They were not named correctly but they still promptly appeared in my library. My Girlfriend watched an episode this morning then rang at tea time to say they had dissapeared. I renamed the files and they reappeared. Go figure!  :o

The safest way is always to name with the correct method.  :P

Let us know if renaming helps.

Fixed, thx. - renamed and numbered all Road Runner episodes, that took some time.

Road Runner took some time?? Priceless!  :D

Seriously tho. Im glad you got it sorted.

Haha. I had something similar for a friend who wanted Doctor Who (2005) including the specials. It's was really hard work for a series I am unfamiliar with.

Did you use http://thetvdb.com/ ? Just in case its ever any use to you, it's the way to go. If ithe need ever arises, any specials are usually called S00.Exx

Name them according to TVDB and Plex will identify them straight away.

Will remember that

Sidenote, the backup system will be busy tonight, after all the renaming... ;)

Too late now, but there are tools to help you out with naming so that you don't have to do it by hand. Filebot is one example, but there are others. To avoid problems as discussed above I always let Filebot name and sort all my mediafiles before Plex picks it up.

edit: See this thread for examples on how to use Filebot - https://forums.plex.tv/topic/110918-using-filebot/

Thx for the advice, I used the Multi Rename tool from Total Commander for renaming series, just did all my documentary folders, that was a real mess.

For doing the big renames also try Bulk Rename Utility - it has saved me many many hours

To add some extra feedback, I have all movies / series sorted by year on USB device. Now I added each year as submap. Double Deep folders dont work well with PLEX. You have to add all seperate years once, but it speeds up indexing and matching a lot.
