set recording to store 5 episodes and limit reached. This recording is higher up the priority than the show that has not reached its limit. It appears plex is not recording the lower priority show due to the higher priority show even though that should not be recorded as it has reached its limit. I can only assume plex is keeping the latest 5 episodes rather than recording 5 shows then stopping.
I wanted to get 5 episodes of all my tv shows but this appears to not be an option, so some never record due to conflicts. Ideally it would offer keep first 5 episodes, keep latest 5 episodes.
The limit of episodes uses the original air date from what I recall. The Garbage Collection process runs against files that are in the library not future recordings. Garbage Collection examines the episodes for each show and checks the settings for the show. So when the sixth episode is recorded Plex will remove the episode with the oldest original air date. Remember Plex has been around much longer than the DVR component and these settings were probably in existence already for users to manage their libraries. If you have 5 episodes of a show and want to ensure that another show is recorded you will probably need to move the show you don’t want recorded down the recording priority list.
