Nvidia GPU hardware transcoding without quicksync: windows or Ubuntu?

Hello all,

I’m in the process of building a server to run Plex and a few other things. Apologies - I know this question has been asked before but these things are often very much hardware-dependant, and neither the docs nor any topics on the forum have been able to give a clear, unanimous answer.

So.

The important bits of hardware I’ve decided on are the following:
CPU: Dual Xeon Silver 4110
GPU: nVidia Tesla V100

Now, from what I can tell, this CPU does not support intel quicksync (at least, it’s not mentioned on the details on the Intel website…). So, if I want to have both encoding and decoding done by the GPU (provided the codecs are supported) is this possible on Ubuntu? Or does it have to be windows? Or, without quicksync, is it impossible to use the GPU at all?

Please help!

Thanks in advance

This will work on Linux – provided the Nvidia drivers are installed and the Nvidia drivers support the card.

This page appears to indicate support but the specific driver (418.30 or higher) is required for Plex to see a Nvidia card.

Thanks for the help!
