where is an actual Plex dev when they realize theyāre playing around with capping features for TVs on purpose and not giving a statement on the subject. no matter
sideload an older version of plex for android tv and sync away to your shield or other atv
FFS if other android devices can do this how hard would it be to turn this feature on for shield?

+1 This is absolutely something that should be added/probably just a flag in the APK for the shield and wouldnāt even take any workā¦come on guys.
I just bought a plex pass the other day for HW transcoding (which mostly sucks and doesnāt release the nvenc encoder properly then defaulting to the CPU, along with no x265 supportā¦in 2019) and now Iām finding out that the entire experience is hamstrung. What a joke!
I keep seeing the excuse āThe general use case for Plexāā¦Iām sorry what random everyday non-power users are hoarding data and running personal servers. Open up more advance features FFS.
I know the request is for shield sync, but as a work around you can sync to a mobile phone/tablet, then ācastā to the shield.
This should be added. Itās so obvious, when I bought a shield I assumed I could do this and take the shield camping with me. Please Plex?

This is exactly my use case. Camping with only cellular or no data and my SHIELD/Plex. Others have suggested storing movies offline on phone & casting to SHIELD cast receiver or chromecast. I didnāt realize chromecast worked offline with only a local network, I thought it used to have an error screen ā I guess Iāll give it a try that as a workaround to this feature being disabled on SHIELD/Plex.

Just saw how nvidia announced the new shields and was looking to setup one for my parents RV. This would be perfect as they go many places that dont have WiFi and I would be able to sync to the built in SD card. Its an android device I dont understand why its not available yet
We donāt support sync on Android TV due to the low amount of space available on these devices, it could be something we consider in the future but for the moment itās not on the roadmap.
Not entirely the same, but with the SHIELD Pro you could use PMS to serve the content from your microSD, would need to sync the content manually though.
Casting to the SHIELD (or Chromecast) on a local network whilst offline works, no internet connection is required.

But the Shield has MORE space than a lot of phones.
Maybe make it an option you have to turn on in the settings and include a warning about space.
We can put a USB micro card for external storage for sync use, so not enough space really isnāt a thought of why it shouldnāt be added.

ive been trying and cant sync to my shieldā¦nothing comes up or cant add libraries. doesnt launch the setup wizard at allā¦ive cleared cache and data to start fresh and nothing. i hit sign in enter the pin and still nothingā¦not sure whats going on

We purchased the NVIDIA Shield for this particular reason. It is highly disappointing to find out the SYNC functionality is not available for this device.
I only want the Plex Pass to sync to my Shield. Stupid to not make it possible.
+1 for sync on the shield ā¦ The internet connection is spotty at the cottage in bad weather. I would love to have a bunch of movies syncād for those stormy days. Also, cannot stream at high bitrates. Another reason right there.
+1 I am planning to use a nvidia shield for our chalet in the mountains with unstable internet connection. It would be nice to sync content during the day to watch flawlessly in the evening. Sync is not a mobile feature only in my opinionā¦!
To the plex employee who said āWe donāt support sync on Android TV due to the low amount of space available on these devices, it could be something we consider in the future but for the moment itās not on the roadmapā. Then why would you have a server app for the shield? Most Android boxes have USB ports with expandable storage. Itās a simple fix on your end and itās clearly in high demand.

I too want to see sync for Android TV. I have an Nvidia shield TV that I take camping and often there is no internet available. Iām holding off on my Plex Pass until this feature is available since itās the only reason I need to purchase it. Can we get a response from Plex on this. I put a feature request in this forum ā¦ everyone search Enable Sync to Android TV and upvote it please!
