So I used to have this setting on to force DTS to AC3 transcoding, because of the inability of the Sonos Arc to play DTS.
Just for anyone coming here from Google. This is now an option. Go to Settings and then find the tile called Passthrough. Change that from HDMI (the default) to Optical. This will then add an additional tile next it it where you can select either AC3 or DTS. If you’re using a Playbar then you want AC3. Tested it with a file that had DTS 5.1 and it converted perfectly.
However now with that option on, the movie won’t start playing, it will just hang at loading. So I have to set it back to HDMI, but then I’m only getting stereo for DTS movies
My setup is:
Sonos Arc → TV
Nvidia Shield → Hue Play Sync Box → TV
Would be good to have that option to deselect DTS for HDMI as well…
Maybe you can update your SONOS Arc to solve this issue.
Hi @georgejolliffe , glad to see SONOS Arc’s update
Sonos Arc now supports multi-channel LPCM surround sound through an eARC connection.
Did SONOS Beam have the same issue?
If you really wanted to transcode DTS to AC3, you could try this:
@georgejolliffe Thanks for your reply.
But I can’t find any options to disable DTS in Plex Player settings on Shield TV. What I can get is to change the web player settings in the Shield TV IP’s Plex Media Server web console.
Home theater topology:
Sony TV
|-- HDMI – nVIDIA Shield TV
|-- HDMI – SONOS Beam
Update: I have already solved the transcoding issue of SONOS Beam.
That was really simple:
open Shield TV
open Plex
setting – advanced – channel, just choose to disable it, neither HD…

If I do that, my plex doesn’t start playing the movie, it just hangs on loading, on EAC3, and DD and DTS plays as stereo
