[Feature Request] NVIDIA Shield / ARC - more detailed audio configuration options

A number of Plex users, like me, have the new SONOS ARC which supports True HD but does not support DTS or DTS-HD. Using Plex on the NVIDIA Shield (2019) True HD playback works just fine but when DTS or DTS-HD plays, we only get stereo. In Kodi, there are granular audio settings to configure that you can support True HD but not DTS and DTS-HD. This means that Kodi transcodes DTS and DTS-HD to DD5.1 (instead of stereo).

Is it possible to get this changed on the plex client on the NVIDIA shield so that we have more granular control over the audio configuration settings so we can say to the Plex server the ARC supports TRUE HD but not DTS and DTS-HD and therefore transcode to DD5.1?

LCPM is not supported by the SONOS ARC. They say one day it might do, but we don’t want to have to wait on the “one day”. SONOS are notoriously slow at providing new features. Any chance this can be fixed within Plex?

I’m happy to pay for the development time to make this happen and put this at the top of the list.

I’d prefer the Apple TV fix first, and then this one. Will fund both. Thanks!

Ideally one wouldn’t need to manually configure that. Android TV can already auto-detect which audio formats are supported on the HDMI ARC link, and the Nvidia Shield even gives you the option to manually specify the supported formats. Plex should respect these settings.

Unfortunately that doesn’t work. A lot of people are in the same boat as me.

Sorry, I’m saying that Plex should respect what the OS is saying it supports. Currently Plex does not honor those settings.

Ahhh, got it. Perhaps this should be submitted as a bug request rather than feature request

Bumping this FR. It would be great to get this prioritized as I have to constantly switch to using Kodi to play any DTS content. Some of this issues with the Sonos ARC got resolved when multichannel PCM support came out, but DTS is still a problem for non eARC users.

Bumping this as I too would like this

Really want this.

Using Philips AndroidTV and we really need to specify manually what is supported or not over HDMI (like it is for optical).

It seems to fail in its detection and you get stereo sound instead of surround.
