NVidia Shield: SRT subtitles causing "burn subtitles" to activate when audio is also transcoded

Just extracted the subs and uploaded them, same problem. So the issue seems to be ASS subs, SRT is fine

Oh, same problem on the PS5 too

ASS subs is a separate issue from this thread, which was about SRT subs. There have been a lot of other threads about ASS problems.

Seems like the same issue on Plex Web too, at least in chrome. Bigger issue that it also disables hardware encoding on NV hardware… Despite it saying it does it.

Yet Firefox manages it just fine…

I’m experiencing the same issue on the Plex for LG app.
Plex Media Server version 1.21.1.3876.

When playing a video with 4K HEVC 10bit HDR with DTS-HD:

In the old app (4.29.9):
No subtitle
Video: Direct Stream, Audio: AAC Transcode

With external .srt subtitle
Video: 1080P Transcode, Audio: AAC Transcode

In the new app (5.6.1):
No subtitle
Video: Direct Stream, Audio: AAC Transcode

With external .srt subtitle
ā€œAn unexpected playback problem occurred.ā€

Plex 5.8.1 on LG WebOS app, facing this issue as well! Without subtitles, only audio transcodes. With subtitles, both audio & video transcoding. LG CX 2020

Well, very annoyingly, this issue ISN’T fixed. When I play some 4k files, it flat out cannot play them with subtitles on because it attempts to transcode. Turning off the SRT subtitles and it plays immediately.

COMMON this is ridiculous. I simply cannot keep using plex.

If only some, not all, files, look for something unique to those files that exhibit the problem.

No issue with transcoded audio and subtitles on my 2015 Shield Pro.

Plex for Android works just fine. Plex for WebOS is the issue here (for me, atleast)

I was pretty bummed to notice how bad Plex is on WebOS after being very excited about getting myself an LG OLED TV. Guess I’ll just buy an external player like Shield or whatever…
