I recently bought a Nvidia Shield TV, so I would be able to play my 4K content through a Gigabit Ethernet Connection (CAT 7).
But I have some problems with playback of some files. Like Planet Earth II which is a series plays beautifully without problems, but something like “Antman and the Wasp” which is a movie won’t play proberly.
The picture is actually completely scrambled in the start, to the point there I thought the file was corrupted, but it is not a problem on my PC, which also streams through the server. (not at the same time)
Is the SHIELD TV not powerful enough to playback these files or could there be another reason for the problem?
I have found the shield to be completely capable of playing ALL my 4K content.
Gonna have to provide more details here.
first thought is …check audio properties of files.
Does Antman have 7.1 True audio and Planet Earth only 5.1 AC3?
does one transcode the other direct play?
Both files are of the HVEC-codec and REMUX rips, so no difference there. Of course one episode of Planet Earth is 17 GB for about an hour, whereas Ant Man is around 50 GB for 2 hours, so 25 GB for an hour, which. But it all adds up to around 7-8 MB/s, so my Gigabit Ethernet should be able to handle it.
The audio-codec however is different. Planet Earth has DTS-HD.MA.5.1-FGT, while Ant-Man has DTS-HD.MA.TrueHD.7.1.Atmos-FGT.
But I don’t see how which would scramble the picture?
I tried another movie, where the picture would not be scrambled, but at some points it would be lagging like hell.
For now I will try to do some more testing, I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced problems with the SHIELD TV, and that the SHIELD Pro might were a better choice.
do you have your shield plugged into the TV, or is it plugged into a receiver?
most tvs do not support truehd passthrough, so if you want the best audio with no transcoding, you need to plug the shield into a 4k/atmos compatible receiver (or soundbar).
