I am loving Plexamp 3.0, but I have some concerns about my mobile data. I have around 16,000 songs in my library, most of which are FLAC 24/48. Streaming is not really an option while driving/walking, so I love the ‘Download’ option.
Is there a way to turn off streaming so that songs do not play from a remote server, and only play downloaded songs? I primarily use it for streaming music to Android Auto, and I wouldn’t expect to have granular control in that interface over what is played (downloaded vs. streamed) which will very quickly drain my mobile data quota.
Is there a way to turn off streaming while on cellular data? Maybe there’s a way to play only downloaded songs?
Thanks for the quick response! I was really not expecting a response so quickly
I’ve tested disabling data in Android 11 (Pixel 3 XL) and sadly it doesn’t work on a per-app basis for ‘foreground’ apps, only background data which doesn’t work when you’re using the app.
For the downloads tab, I don’t think that’s available in Android Auto? Should I maybe be posting this in feature requests instead? One workaround I can see would be to only play a certain playlist that I have downloaded, but ideally I’d love to shuffle all the downloaded music if you know what I mean?
I’ll add some more information here, because I think it might help. I’m currently using MediaMonkey to sync music to my phone, but the sync and method are so ancient that I’m looking for a better way to accomplish this. Plexamp checks all the boxes, HQ music, Smart Playlists, Local Storage, excellent MetaData organization (Play Count, Ratings, Etc). The only thing I’m missing is the ability to play only local music.
The concepts Plex works on make older forms of ‘sync’ unnecessary; the cache function and the download function work seamlessly to give a well rounded pool of local storage for playback. The only thing I can’t figure out how to do smoothly is play without streaming.
The work around to only play certain music from certain playlists will work, but it makes the solution a little bit clunky. Being able to ‘switch off’ data somehow would make it the best solution I’ve seen for someone who loves their HQ music but can’t justify an ‘unlimited’ data plan.
I hope I’ve explained this in a way that’s easy to understand but please, I’d like to see how to make this work without using mobile data at all if possible.
