I run my PMS on a Unraid server, with an AMD 5600x CPU, and a GeForce 1050 GPU for hardware acceleration. This runs in a docker container. For local streaming, it’s not much issue though seems to struggle at two streams at the same time in the house. Most of my content is ripped at 4k.
That said – I often have to travel and I like to sync content to my iPad before I go so I can watch it without much issue. The challenge of course, is that if I sync 2-3 movies or a few TV shows, it can take hours to convert it all, often failing and requiring me to re-do the sync. It’s frustrating.
I am not sure why it takes so long, and whether my hardware has some part of the fault. I don’t know whether I should upgrade my hardware, make any changes to the Unraid setup in Docker, or upgrade my graphics card. Honestly for the sync, I’m not even sure it uses the graphics card.
I’m open to suggestions here as I don’t have a good answer, but would greatly appreciate if anybody does!
