So I’m currently running my PMS on an old PC , and using a Netgear Readynas102 attached to my network as a server. After 3 years of running plex on my PC, the PC has started to randomly shutdown and restart… I guess it’s run its course.
I’ve been searching around debating if I should buy a mini pc to replace it or purchase another standard PC and hope it lives longer. Any suggestions?
I’m basically looking for something that can run 24/7 and let me connect to it to add more media.
I bought a refurbished business machine from amazon, something I knew had the CPU and Ram that could run it 24hrs a day (with 2 girls in college and a Mother that wants to watch tv all day) other than a HDD (secondary drive I was using for dvr recordings) that went bad after the “warranty” expired and replaced it with a SSD. I think it was worth the $300 I dropped on it.
My setup is home z420 e5-2680 passmark is 12555 with 32gb ram bought for 249$ with no hdd or os . I bought a ssd for 50$ and installed windows 10. If it helps, 99% of my content is converted and doesnt need transcoding. Just wanted to find a cheap upgrade from my old I5.
I’d hold my verdict until after doing this:
Shut it down,
open it up
use a pencil to block any fans from spinning and use plenty of compressed air to remove the dust and fluff collected on cooling fins, air ducts and fans.
