I’m getting a bit confused about audio/video codecs so I’ll try to be as much as possible clear in my request and please forgive me if I’ll come up with some tech no no…
I’m currently searching for a new OLED TV, my goal is to utilize my Plex libraries (PMS on NAS) to play movies with HD contents, e.g. 10 Cloverfield Lane (Dolby Vision, Dolby TrueHD/Atmos Audio) or Bohemian Rhapsody (HDR10+, Dolby TrueHD/Atmos Audio). Assuming that the audio part will be managed by a HT 7.1.2 which media player is more indicated?
Nvidia Shield: currently I own one but it doesn’t support Dolby Vision therefore if I’ll buy a TV with DV I won’t benefit of this, correct?
LG C/E9: I read that Plex app is quite good, however this model doesn’t support HDR10+.
Panasonic GZ950: It supports DV, HDR10 and HDR10+, however I have no idea if there is even a working Plex app for it.
I have a Panasonic FZ950, and the Plex app on the Tv is atrocious.
I use the Nvidia shield with the Panasonic FZ950, and it works great.
However Nvidia shield does not support HDR10+
I have hdr10+ mkv rips of - Godzilla, Alita: Battle Angel & Alien…and they play OK on Plex via the shield, But it doesn’t tell you what type of HDR it is…either on the app or TV.
Hitting the info button on the Panasonic TV only displays a hdr badge…but not a hdr10+ badge.
The new gen2 amazon fire tv cube (came out last week), supports HDR10+
Will be interesting to see if Plex will play nice with this device & hdr10+ files.
