Olympics - episodes showing in program guide, not appearing in recording schedule

In the program guide, I set “2018 Winter Olympics” to record, all 178 episodes early last week. I didn’t think twice about it until the Opening Ceremonies didn’t record. It wasn’t listed anywhere in the Recording Schedule (so it didn’t fail). I’m now looking at the recordings for today and many Olympic episodes listed in the Program Guide aren’t showing in the Recording Schedule. The Olympics are at the top of my priority list and I don’t see any tuner conflicts. I don’t understand what is going on, nor how to figure this out. I expect to see every Olympic episode listed in the Recording Schedule with conflicts or other issues noted. This Olympic recording seems to be acting different that others. I’ve tried deleting and recreating it, restarting the linux host.

Any help or debugging steps welcome.

I’m having the same issue. I had three Olympic broadcasts scheduled for today as of this morning. After the first broadcast finished recording and was added to my library the other two disappeared from the recording schedule.

Edit: I’ve come up with a hackish workaround. I wrote a postprocessing script that will move any newly recorded file with olympics in the name to a new directory so that it isn’t added to the library. Recordings are no longer removed from the schedule, but I need to manually add in descriptions when moving them to the library later.

Some more information.

I deleted the “record all events” item, and instead went to the Olympics in the Program Guide and selected events to record one by one. It looked encouraging as the red dots indicating a show was selected for recording showed up. However, when looking at the recording schedule, a few were missing. Looking in the Recording Priority column, a few that I just added from the Program Guide show “No upcoming airings”. The Program Guide seems to know about events the recording scheduler can’t find.

yep… mine is having the same crappy issue. I’m about 3 inches from tossing my plex account out the window and going back to the HD Home Run software.

I’ll be mid-recording, also watching it, it’ll just hose up… I get the spinning circle and it will never recover. if I close the viewing and try to reopen it, the buffer bar of where I was appears, but the wheel just keeps on spinning. the recording disappears from the recording schedule to top it all off… even if I force a PMS reboot, it still comes back up with all the schedulings gone… even when I go in and cancel the whole recording schedule, it won’t show back up when I set up a new one.

oh, and should I mention it’s also happening for me for recordings of the olympics!!! the worst part is that it only seems to happen when I really want to see what’s about to happen… I missed the whole final for slopestyle, just hosed up on me watching a solid run in women’s luge… it’s so frustrating

Thanks, plex, for making me miss the events I wanted to see most.

The same issue has been reported here:

@plex1701 can you post your script for others to use since we are all suffering the same?

BTW… MythTV solved this issue by having a configuration option for disabling duplicate checking thus allowing multiple recordings of episodes with matching metadata.

Yep, discussion 307790 looks like my issue as well. All those single event recordings disappeared from the Recording Schedule at some point today. Likely after the first recording was successful. I’ll have to look at scripting something as well.

@simora My original postprocessing script was actually a C# command line program with hardcoded paths, but a PowerShell script like this should work:

$filename = $args[0]
$dest = "..\Olympics"
if ($filename.contains("Winter Olympics"))
{
	Move-Item -Path $filename -Destination $dest
}

Change the destination folder to whatever you prefer, save that to a file with a .ps1 extension, then change the post processing script in your DVR settings in Plex to: powershell -file /path to script/

New Plex Pass version just released addressing Olympics and other shows with multiple episodes on the same : https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/62832/plex-media-server#latest

USA channel appears to be still having issues with deduplication. I have one recording from the USA channel and all others fail to show as scheduled recordings yet are all present in program guide.

2018\ Winter\ Olympics\ (2018)\ -\ 2018-02-14\ 00\ 00\ 00\ -\ Women’s\ Hockey\ Korea\ vs.\ Japan.ts

Failing as of “Women’s curling: Great Britain vs OAR” started at 17:00 EST

If i move the Women’s hockey episode out of the library and change recording priority the Women’s Curling immediately began recording. I’ve setup my post processing script again and will continue to operate it until the olympics are complete. Perhaps Plex needs to add the “record all the things” check box that disables all deduplication.

Did you update to the version John mentioned right above your post? That should fix your issue. If you are running that version can you please upload your zip log files so we can take a look at them to see why you got the failure to record?

Thanks,
Carlo

logs are gone and i’m not going to risk losing more olympics recordings, WAF is on a rapid decline atm. i did upgrade to the latest 4793. i am having issues with CNBCHD.

there is still some stuff in the log i think… good luck.

for whatever reason, I was getting transcoder errors on like 60% of the recordings I had set up. and when it happens right at the beginning of an episode, it just scraps the entire recording… but I found that if I took whatever residual files from the attempt was in the recording folder’s to include that in the .grab folder, I could restart the application and it would kick off the recording again. so basically, I have to watch my olympics recordings like a hawk now… I may as well just be watching it live :frowning:
