I think I use a plex-compatible naming for my tv show library. Example for One Piece:
One Piece (1999)/Staffel 1 - East Blue/s01e001 Hier kommt Ruffy, der künftige König der Piraten.mkv
But it does only obtain the first 8 episode titles and TVDB-thumbnails of season 1:
I think its because episode 9 was released in 2000 and not in 1999. Because of that I renamed the main folder from “One Piece (1999)” to “One Piece/”. It re-scanned the complete tv show and still stops at episode 8?! How is it possible as it is undated, now?
I checked other tv shows and although they all have a year in the main folder (and the same naming structure), they all have correct titles for all seasons / episodes.
You’ll have to convince the guys over at TheTVDb.com forums that they got it wrong… and usually right (sometimes for odd reasons). Sometimes it’s worth to double-check the series structure in a different reference… It appears One Piece is listed in the way you prefer on TheMovieDb.org, so you could re-match the series using The Movie Database agent!
As for “The naming should be ok…” – it’s not
You might get lucky with it but you really might want to consider fixing it (in particular if you want to re-match the show anyway). Generic example:
Library Folder
Show Name (Year)
Season XX
Show Name (Year) - sXXeYY - Optional Episode Name.ext
Show Name (Year) - sXXeYY.ext
...
One Piece example:
TV Shows
One Piece (1999)
Season 01
One Piece (1999) - s01e01.mkv
One Piece (1999) - s01e02.mkv
...
Regarding your suggestion to rename all files:
1.) Of course I could rename the season-folders. But not everyone in my household understands English and as long it works I use the German translation.
2.) But adding the tv show name and year additionally to all episode file names does not make sense to me in a semantic point of view. In German I would say “doppelt gemoppelt” (~exaggerated organized). I really don’t hope Plex will ever force users to name their files like that ^^
You can pick an individual agent when manually matching a show / movie without changing the agent of the entire library.
If you change the agent for the entire library, this will impact all future additions to that library.
That’s the part I did not expected. If I change the default agent I expect a complete re-scan. Fun fact: It re-scans everything after chaging the default agent, but with the old agent.
Maybe this point should be reconsidered. At least a little popup should inform the user that it affects only future additions. Because I waited all the time for the new metadata and finally it was for nothing.
