Only allow specific remote IPs

Hi

I have a small library that I share with my family remotely. I would like to only allow their IPs to access the server. Which is the proper way to achieve this?

I tried setting up a firewall that only allow their IPs to access port 32400, is this correct? The reason I ask is because I am a bit unsure which port I should allow the to access. If I check the remote access page in Plex there is a public IP with a different port number (15985), shouldn’t they access the server through this port? I feel a bit confused about this.

Also the server keeps changin from not accessible remotely to being accessible remotely, I guess this is because the plex.tv service workers can’t reach my server to check availability, should I whitelist the worker IPs as well?

If they’re to access your server from outside your home network, you’ll need to use the remote access port. Keep in mind ISPs rarely assign static IP addresses to their users – so you’ll have a hard time to pin them down with a firewall rule.

And yes… you’ll need the “workers” too.

So the “remote access port” in this case is the “15985”?

Do I need to forward the 32400 port? or can I forward the “15985” port only?

only 15985. 32400 is only used inside your home network.

Ok thanks for the help.

For whitelisting of IP, do I need to allow the IP on port 32400 or 15985?

15985
