Only white subtitles on 4K movies

Server Version#:1.42.2
Player Version#:8.45
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>Does anybody have a solution on that ? there are no problems on 720 or 1080 movies, where I use yellow subtitles.

Which format do these subtitle tracks use?
If they are PGS or VOBSUB format, then their color is pre-defined and cannot be changed in Plex. (both these formats only occur on discs [DVD, Bluray] and are pixel graphics, not text)

To have a choice of color, shadow, outline, size etc, subtitles need to be in a text format, like SRT.

Sorry - Tx3g - srt

it works fine in appletv playing a 4K movie, so the problem seem to be in plex on appletv !

@MacPlex-Dk

I can’t replicate this problem when showing a 4K HDR10 via Direct Play from
PMS-1.42.2.10156 to an ATV 4K (3rd gen 2022) running Plex 8.45.

My tvOS is old though, 18.1. The last was 18.6 before tvOS 26.0.1 came along.
Which one are you on?

I did the usual thing of defining my own subtitle style in the ATV Settings → Accessibility.
My film had a generic SRT. How about yours?

You might check your Dashboard to see if PMS is doing Direct Play.

On the few files I was only getting white subs even with my yellow style settings I finally realized the production company had hardcoded the subs into the video. It wasn’t a PGS issue, and that took a painful couple of hours down a rabbit hole to realize.

nerds!
