OpenConnect (OSX APP)

Okay fixed the issue I was having. Redownloaded the github and followed steps once more. Osx I have is 10.9.1

Okay. rebooted and everything but still this thing installs , updates etc, then starts and then says goodbye and not working.

Did you install the cert on your Apple TV? Did you point your appletv DNS to you mac? If you followed the guide mode it runs you thru everything. If you are skipping steps in the guide then it will not install properly.

my other setup using terminal command (original) method still works perfectly.

Your other setup? Let’s concentrate on one thing at a time here. If you installed a new cert on the Mac you just installed you must install that same cert to your appletv. If you are using multiple certs and multiple machines you should only be using one cert for all of them. After you install OpenConnect it becomes a terminal free environment.

no ,i meant if i run terminal command on same folder and run plexconnect like how it was first done. it is working

I’m lost here so it’s is working for you? What is the issue? Does PlexConnect start at boot now? Can you use PlexConnect on your appleTV? I think we have a language issue here.

Its working now. Problem was It was initializing and icon would come up and install and then said good bye and disappeared, so i thought not working. but i can acess plexconnect on atv3 now.

It says goodbye after it updates plexconnect and installs a permanent plexconnect plist to load PlexConnect at boot. You only need to install once then you only need to update from that point forward.

Now i know that :D

Now i know that :D

Everything still good over there brother?

hi

the alturl links don't seem to be working

When you visit the alturl in my signature scroll down and follow the readme.txt.

If you are talking about the alturl in the readme.txt goto the download zip on the right side of the window. It takes you to the root URL of my Fork of plexconnect.

Geez what did you guys add lately :stuck_out_tongue:

hello

i would like some clarification on one of the steps in installing OpenConnect

---

sudo su
## Naviagate to the new /update/OSX folder <-----OSX is a subfolder of Update.
chmod +x install.bash
./install.bash

---

i type in "sudo su" and then goto the folder  "/Users/username/Library/Application Support/PlexConnect/update/OSX"

i run "chmod +x install.bash" then another prompt shows up so i type "./install.bash and all i get is this...

sh-3.2# chmod +x install.bash

sh-3.2# ./install.bash

what am i doing wrong? thanks

You are doing nothing wrong, just install the app on post 1 and you should be set

If you want webconnect just follow the rest of the readme.

thanks for the help wahlman.j

Everything still good over there brother?

Yeah everything fine. Thanks!

So one more q, we won`t need to now update plexconnect folder anymore. Earlier I used to update it by Github whenevrr there was new update.

You will still need to update plexconnect (if desired) by using the update option with OpenConnect or the update option with webconnect. You can also do git pull in the plexconnect base directory or update.bash via terminal but the whole point of these new methods are to update without using terminal and entering your root password everytime.

Hmm, ran your install script only to find out Git is required!

If Git is required, XCode(Meant for Developers) is required along with maybe Homebrew to facilitate the installation of Git. So when your readme says the dependencies are "plist is required" is kinda misleading.

I appreciate your hard work, just suggest you list the dependencies out clearly so a novice does not get mislead.

2 Servers, PlexConnect Webserver + Apache, doesn't make sense man ;)

If you have a standalone app, that does not require Git/Xcode, pl. give me a shout, will be more than happy to test.

I guess it's possible, there is a Tower app for Mac that does not require Git to pull, wonder how that works!

Keep up the great work man :)

Cheers,

Jake.

Update: My bad, there is a way to install git without xcode after all http://code.google.com/p/git-osx-installer/

Your app does not work on OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) ;) , I did a workaround to install python 2.7 on OSX 10.6.8(It ships with python 2.6 and I don't like messing with paths so got both versions of python playing nice side by side) so that PlexConnect works and launchctl daemon runs. Cheers, sorry if I caused any confusion.

You can install git without installing Xcode the are various options to do so. This app requires dependencies as in the scripts, plists etc. PlexConnect does have its own websever. I use an apache2 webserver only to run WebConnect (along side PlexConnect’s webserver) which is able to work on any device any browser anywhere you have internet (or just locally) that is able to perform basic scripting plexconnect functions (updating plexconnect for example) which makes a lot of sense  an apache2 webserver is not for the OpenConnect app. If you are running osx I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to install a plist to autostart plexconnect @ boot so you wouldn’t have to manually run plexconnect.py every time you want to use plexconnect but hey thats on you. Nobody is forcing you to use this app if you dont want to. You can actually install git in 1 minute flat without xcode by just clicking install when osx prompts you to after you run:

./install.bash

You can also use webconnect instead of OpenConnect if desired to be app free to install, update etc. Why would you want to use a temporary trial app to update plexconnect when there are many free options such as:

OpenConnect - update plexconnect (unloads(stops)/updates/reloads(starts) plexconnect automatically)

Webconnect - update plexconnect (unloads(stops)/updates/reloads(starts) plexconnect automatically)

OpenConnect terminal command line script- update.bash as sudo (unloads(stops)/updates/reloads(starts) plexconnect automatically)

terminal - git pull (while in the plexconnect main path as sudo assuming plexconnect is not running)

Also when you say OpenConnect does not work on snow leopard could you explain what is not working? I have yet to see this app not work on any version of OSX since it is a extremly basic app built using automator which I assume comes with almost nearly any version of osx. Without proof I can only assume this is a user error, no offence. If you follow the readme.txt and have the folder structure in place the scripts and app should function without fail that I know of, if you want to take it up a notch or not use OpenConnect your can also use webconnect. With both of these options available I don’t see how you couln’td possibly get one of these methods to work.
