Summary: In settings → player → experience, Plex added the ability to select automatic skip intro. No button is shown with the automatic option. Every intro of every show is skipped every time with this option.
Currently supported players:
Android mobile (v9.31.0)
Android TV (v9.31.0)
Plex HTPC for Windows/Mac/Linux (v1.48.0)
Roku (v7.9.3)
Web TV clients (v5.69)
This is clearly related to this request, but is a heavy handed approach. I think this request should remain open because only 1/3rd or less of the requested functionality is in the new feature.
Automatic: yes,
Semi-persistent: no,
Allows for watching intros when the user wants on a case by case basis: no
Works on a watch session basis: no
(Other users suggested) works on per show basis: no
ill be removing my vote then as what they did is enough for me. Understood it didn’t cover everything you wanted but i voted for this because i just wanted automatic skipping. If i never have to see an intro again in my life i’ll be happy!
I think they have balance making things useful and reliable for the majority of people while still making it easy to understand for less advanced users.
This will avoid the micro-panic attack grasping for the remote in the dark before the skip intro button disappears. That’s good enough for me
Hi everyone!! As has already been posted here, yes, we did release a solution to this request this week. Info has already been posted, but just in case, here is the support article to check out if you want more info, and it is the Skip Into feature: Player Experience
Having just read through the entire thread, we are aware that there have been multiple ways proposed to implement this. These were part of the working conversation, but at the end of the day, we went with a toggle at the client level which applies across content played on that client.
So first of all, a big thanks to everyone here for the feature request and comments in this thread. As an implementation of this is now released we will leave this request open for a bit for any additional feedback, but we want to free up votes for everyone so it will be closed after the feedback period. If a more granular control or additional client logic to toggle the setting is something you want to see then please feel free to create another suggestion with this called out!
For feedback, I think there are enough shows with intros that change on a seasonal or even more frequent basis to warrant more granular control.
My OP suggestion would have provided that, though perhaps it would have been too confusing an interface.
If the existing global toggle were to additionally appear on the info page for every TV item (show/season/series), then you could have the simplicity of a client-side global toggle that is also more accessible to the user.
As you suggest, I’ll take it to a new thread maybe. For now it’s just my two cents.
@twilsonco I get it - but once you move beyond a single global setting it starts getting complicated quickly and turns into a balancing act. More settings seem great until the interface is nothing but settings Keep the feedback coming though - now that it is released it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that we iterate on this and consider something more granular in the future.
No, I still mean a global setting, but it can be toggled from multiple places. Still global, but the user wouldn’t have to venture into settings to change it. No actual increase in granularity.
Apologies - I should have been a bit clearer in my wording in my previous response. Right now it is a single global setting for each client. What you are proposing is a single global setting at the account level which each client would then consume and apply for playback. While that isn’t a massively bigger challenge, it is a bigger lift with more moving parts than how it is currently implemented. Thanks for the conversation here!
Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t intend to imply an account level toggle. Still a global setting at the client level, but exposed in multiple places.
I guess maybe there’s some technical details I’m missing here. Would changing a toggle on a media item’s page require that the associated setting be at the account level? I figured if the toggle can be added to the client settings then it could be added elsewhere in the client while still being a client setting.
Also, forgive the ongoing discussion. Just trying to make sure I’m being understood.
There is nothing to forgive here! That clarification really helps. I had misunderstood the intent and am glad that I think I fully understand it now. I can bring this up internally for some review, the challenge would be to define or label it in a way that explicitly and easily defines it as the same global toggle, just exposed in more places. This may be tough as this argument might be why it is challenging to implement. But we can at least talk it through!
Yes. But let’s also just add an option to ALWAYS skip intros and credits. I don’t want to have to manually skip them a few times just to make it learn that I want to skip them all. There were lots of other suggestions for permanent options to skip but they keep getting closed because of this one, but this is a DIFFERENT feature.
This conversation’s basically closed, but I’ll point out that my suggested implementation would have allowed the user to set the number of skips necessary to initiate auto-skip. If set to 0, then it would always skip, just as you suggest. So that would have been possible via this feature.
I have been waiting for this autoskip feature for a really long time now. I am very happy and sad at the same time because I changed all my nviadia shields to apple tvs like half a year ago. When will this be available for apple tv? Please
