Player Experience

We have added a bunch of Player experience features available to Plex Pass subscribers. The account using the playback device must have a Plex Pass or be in a Plex Home where the home admin has a Plex Pass.

Some of the setting options marked as “default” were the existing behaviours and what accounts without a Plex Pass will experience if they have access to the feature at all (non-Plex Pass account do not have access to Skip Intro for example so that default will not affect them )

Current Player support

  • Amazon Fire TV (v9.31.0 or newer)
  • Android mobile (v9.31.0 or newer)
  • Android TV (v9.31.0 or newer)
  • Apple TV (v8.39 or newer)
  • iOS (v8.39 or newer)
  • PlayStation (v5.69 or newer)
  • Plex HTPC for Windows/Mac/Linux (v1.48.0 or newer)
  • Roku (v7.9.3 or newer)
  • Smart TV supported models (v5.69 or newer)
  • Xbox (v5.69 or newer)

The related support docs at support.plex.tv have been updated.

Rewind on Resume (Plex Pass Required)

When resuming media from pause it will start playback at the interval selected prior to the pause point. This can be helpful if you left it paused for an extended period. (This does not impact starting playback via the Resume button on the details/preplay screen of a media item)

Choices are: A default of None or various preset intervals between 1 to 30 seconds

Skip Intro (Plex Pass Required)

For TV show content that has intro markers this option determines if it will automatically skip the intro or even show the button.

Choices are:

  • Disabled: Don’t show the Skip Intro button at all
  • Manually: Show the Skip Intro button (Default)
  • Automatically: Skip the intro sequence without having to hit the button

Skip Ads in Recorded Content (Plex Pass Required)

If you have content recorded from Plex DVR that has commercials that have been marked for skipping by default the app will show a skip ads button. This setting gives the option to skip past detected ads in Plex Media Sever library content. It will not skip past ads in our free ad supported Live TV or On Demand content.

Choices are:

  • Disabled: Don’t show the Skip Ads button at all
  • Manually: Show the Skip Ads button (Default)
  • Automatically: Skip Ads without having to hit the button

Show Up Next (Plex Pass Required)

When a video finishes there is an “Up Next” screen. This is the same screen that the auto play timer will appear on or when a movie finishes.

Choices are:

  • When Video Finishes
  • During final credits: (Default) Video will minimize and continue playing in the Up Next Screen. Return to full screen by selecting the minimized video.

Note only Android TV has this (and Apple TV will when released). All others only show when video finishes

  • After 1 hour
  • After 2 hours (Default)
  • After 3 hours
