We use Plex a lot on our tablet when we're traveling so the kid can watch Power Pony Time or Sesame Road or whatever. But, cute as she is, she can't keep her hands and feet of the screen. Other players have an option to lock the screen during playback until you touch a particular area of the screen to unlock it. Does this feature exist in the Plex player?
Having kids and multiple tablets myself - holy cow this would be useful!
I could use this now, too. My daughter always seems to find a way to pause a movie or, if on an apple device, return to the home screen.
In Android, there's a feature some kids games are using now that hides both the status bar and the back/home/switch bar from showing (a "true" full screen mode). Not only would this free up visual space, but it would make it much more difficult to keep kids from accidentally switching away (and the follow-up "uh oh" that has you lunging for the device to keep the little one out of other things).

This is the only thing i use Apple's Guided Access mode for. I launch plex, start a movie and then start guided access. I even have it set to ignore the power/sleep button so my kids can't accidentally lock the screen while using. Works perfectly. You would think that there is a similar application on Android that provides this type of functionality.

I also use it for mobile passports at airports. That being said, I'm not sure what else you would use it for, that's what it's made for.

I posted above about Guided Access Mode on iOS. Used perfectly to stop your daughter from messing up plex:

There's a feature on android that's very similar, but it needs to be enabled in the application to work.
Looking at the docs, it looks like it would be pretty easy to implement.
The problem I imagine is going to be that immersive mode is only enabled on 4.4 on.
Kids vs Plex isn't the game I want to be playing when my kids need to be pacified. MX Player uses this capability well. A single OSD button to lock screen and very small OSD button to unlock. I would prefer though a multi touch button. Like touch both top corners to disable lock.

Thankfully, 4.4+ is a pretty high percentage even right now, considering it's only a year old. I'm pretty proud of a 40%+ percentage, considering that Android users have to fight against OEM's not updating and carriers not updating.
Not as good as Apple stuff and their update adoption rate, but pretty dang good considering how bad it was to get people off of 2.3...*shudder*
I’ve tried the Plex Pass but will discontinue before the month is up. I have to download videos to the device and use MX Player with Kid Lock for my daughter to be able to watch videos without stopping playback every few seconds. I will buy a lifetime membership if this feature is added.
Hi,
not just for kids.
While playing on a smartphone, we have to take the phone very carefully without touching screen.
I’d like a lock screen like on netflix app does.
yes, this would be a wonderful idea. I really need this for my kids who like to touch the screen and mess everything up during playback. I feel this is a vital feature that should have already been here. It’s a quality of life sorta thing that you don’t know you need till you see it or try to use it and it’s not there. Mobile and tablet for sure. I just noticed the date on this thread and it’s from 2014, crazy how this has not been implemented yet over almost 10 years, unreal. I would take this one feature over all of Tidal which I never use.
