Definitely +1 vote from me. I was just looking into it and am so disappointed to see how OLD this feature request is. Unfortunately alternative solutions are out of the question with no plugins being supported anymore.

An .m3u importer is needed for Plex to be relevant. Such a simple feature to add to a Great product to make it that much better! Please consider this for future releases.

Nearly a decade later, absolutely no feedback from the Plex team that this is being considered.
.m3u playlist importing is a critical feature. I, for example, have tens of thousands of LoFi Hip-hop and similar genre MP3s. These are organized into playlists by subgenre, with each playlist containing hundreds to thousands of songs. Having no way to import these playlists into Plex means I will either have to spend dozens of hours laboriously recreating them in Plex one song at a time. Listening by “Artist” or “Album” is useless - no one listens to LoFi Hip-Hop by artist or whatever.
The lack of this one feature stopped me from paying for Plex for many years. I only recently bought a Plex Pass for the Live TV features. Meanwhile, I am running Navidrome and paid for the play:Sub app just so that I could have a self-hosted music player that supports .m3u playlists.
And, no, I should not be expected to become a python expert to set up and run sketchy “scripts” to import a .m3u playlist - something that should be supported by Plex out of the box.

Agreed, this is simply inexcuable. No professional would just ignore something so popular and, to be frank, easy to implement. It may be that their data schemas are the problem, because having looked at the organization of their schemas first-hand, I can say this work would’ve been sent back if they were working on my team.

Is there any progress on this request regarding importing m3u playlist files in Plex?

Still no progress? It is almost an indictment that such a simple and important feature has not been implemented for 10 years

I have 100’s of .m3u playlists I can’t import into plex. As a DJ it would be so amazing if my playlists could be imported into my plex library.
You can import them into Plex, there’s an API endpoint for that now

The AI gods have made this quite possible for coding nOObs such as myself. I wrote up a python script to copy the playlists to plex. I also set song ratings.
Now I’m working on a script that compares song ratings in plex compared to my playlist files (eg my file of 5 star songs). It will produce a deltas file for me.
Cool stuff. Will try to post on github etc when I’m happy with it all.
