Orange Pi for plex Server

Hello fellow Plex’sters,

I backed a Pine64 on kickstarter with hopes that it could be used as a very inexpensive plex server. As it lacks USB 3.0 and gigabit ethernet it didn’t work too well as the server but for streaming and playback of H264 content its great (it stutters with H265). I did come across the Orange Pi and noticed it has gigabit Ethernet, no USB3.0 of course but easily bypassed with the onboard SATA 2.0 connection. It’ll be a set back of about $300 cdn. Has anyone used the Orange Pi as a server? or what is a cheap build that you are using?

Looking for something inexpensive to be used as a server that would not have a problem with HEVC/H265. Another option I was thinking was the Nighthawk X 10, plex server while also upgrading my network at home

ohh sorry forgot to mention that the nighthawk will be a set back of about $700

I don’t have a suggestion as I am of the opinion that the PMS should have the horsepower to transcode, in order to have the advertised Plex “experience” and ease of use.

I do however use a Pi2 as my primary client device, running Rasplex.

Cool to see another Pin64 owner. I can’t for the life of me figure out a use for mine and am considering selling it though.
