How do you organize your movie titles in Plex to show them in alphabetic order?
If Plex’s listing is not what I want I edit the sort field to get what I want.
I guess that is what I am asking. Where is the sort field?
click the edit icon (the pen) and edit the Sort Title field.

In the web interface in the movie list when you hover over a movie there is a pencil icon in the lower left. Click that and then you can edit many fields that Plex uses.
Ok, I feel dumb now but when I go to the sort field the name of the movie is already there and there are no other sort options that I can see. What am I doing wrong?

In the sort title just change it to what you want. Plex defaults that field to the title with the useless words like “The” and “A.”
So as an example I use often the original “A Nightmare on Elm Street” becomes “Nightmare on Elm Street” when included by Plex and I change it to “Nightmare on Elm Street 1985 11” I include the month because in a few cases there was more than one “Nightmare” movie released in a given year but it is not necessary except for those cases but I just usually do it for all movies of a given name if there are at least two that were in the same year. I do not like worrying about which those were.

never thought of it that way, I just do 01-whatever to do mine in a collection.
The problems with absolute ordering are that you have to know which order the movies come in and if you do not have all the movies of a series when you first add them you have to skip the numbers for the movies you do not have and you cannot easily add movies that you forget about in the initial setup.
Of course sometimes the date released does not actually reflect the order the movies should be viewed. like “The Hobbit” and the “Lord of the Rings” trilogies where they are really part of the same series and the “Hobbit” movies take place before the “Lord of the Rings” and really should be viewed that way.
I use the movie series name (Bond, Back to the Future, Thin man etc) or in some cases the lead actor’s or directors name (Hitchcock, Shirley Temple, John Wayne etc) and the to group movies. BTW: I do not, at least until it gets easier to create them and maintain them, us collections at all. I would prefer collections because a movie can be in several collections but only one sort order.
Even after collections are made viable I will, probably, use the sort order more, but it would be nice for collections to actually work well.
