Common Practice - Title Sorting

I am just curious what is common practice for sorting movie titles where the title starts with a numerical value. Is the number used in the sort title or is the number spelled out?

101 Dalmations, or, One Hundred One Dalmations
28 Weeks Later, or, Twenty eight Weeks Later

Now to be clear, I am specifically referring to the SORT TITLE. Not the name of the file or folder that it resides in.

Thanks for any advice you can lend.

Plex will sort numerals before letters, so if you use “101 Dalmatians,” it will be at the top of the list. “One Hundred One Dalmatians” will be in the O’s.

I would think the most common practice is however the title is displayed on the movie/movie poster.

Thanks. I am aware of how sorting works. I am asking about common practice in how people choose to sort their titles.

Ah, I see. I’m with TeknoJunky on that. I set titles to match how the movie is titled.

I personally leave it with the number.

I follow the movie poster title, or IMDB title of the movie.

A consensus so far. The good thing is that is how I’ve done it
but only because that’s the default behavior of Plex. Thank you all.

If you really wanted it both ways, you could create a collection with the alternate name of the movie, and add that movie to that collection.

ie

moviename = 28 Weeks Later
collectionname = Twenty Eight Weeks Later

edit 28 weeks later, add Twenty Eight Weeks Later the collection field.

collections can even have their own sort title, so you could sort ‘twenty eight weeks later’ as ‘28 weeks later’.

profit.

I use that method so I can get certain titles to appear in more than one location in my library.

I also use the device of having the same movies in several collections named differently so that when I am browsing I will see the movies in logical places in my library. ex. the movies “Westworld” and “Futureworld”
I have those in three collections:

  1. “Westworld/Futureworld collection”
  2. “Futureworld/Westworld collection”
  3. “Delos collection”

By doing that I can find those related movies no matter where I might expect them to be.
