So I have a S03E25S04E01 video I guess folks at StarTrek TNG decided to make the last episode of S03 also the start of S04. In the current naming convention both Sonarr and Plex don’t see that the last episode is also the first episode of S04. Does anyone know what is the proper naming convention in this case?
There is no way to get Plex to see that video as being in both season 03 and 04. The best you can do is make it just s03e25 or s04e01 and place it in the appropriate season and leave it out of the other. Plex does not care if an episode is missing. It could see that episode as the last in season 03 and then season 04 would start with episode 02 or it could be the first in season 04 and season 03 would end with episode e24.
The other thing you could do is use one of the myriad of video editing tools and split the show into two episodes.
I usually place such episodes as the last episode of the first season and just start the next on episode 02. If needed I can edit the metadata and add the correct description for both parts.
This time I was faster and gave a MUCH more complex and confusing answer as is appropriate for an internet forum. Answers like yours only lead to people understanding what is said and needs to be done and therefore reduces the total confusion factor on the internet.

Don’t worry… the internet is safe. As long as you leave it in its box, don’t drop it and regularly de-magnetize it, the elders of the internet will take care.
