Passthrough suddenly stopped working on Plex Windows

Setup:

  • Windows 11 PC

  • MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC (SPDIF)

  • GAINWARD GeForce RTX 4080 Phantom (Changed a week ago from an 1060)

  • Onkyo TX SR508 AV-Receiver

Yesterday Plex Windows passthrough stopped working for me. My receiver still seems to receive an dolby, dts… signal, but its muted. Cause I weren’t able to passthrough with VLC Player too I thought it would be a hardware problem. I’ve changed the audio connection from spdif to hdmi (wasn’t working with my 1060 before because of hdcp). VLC Player passthrough started working again. So I thought fine, problem solved. But Plex Windows still doesn’t work. Meanwhile Plex HTPC work fine too. I’ve also reinstalled Plex and Nvidia/ Realtek drivers without any success.

It’s by far the weirdest audio related Problem I’ve ever encountered…

The logs indicate that it is opening the audio output and not showing any issues. Plex HTPC working presents a strange issue because it use the same playback engine as Plex for Windows. Check to make sure the settings are the same between these two apps to make sure it isn’t a difference there.

Thanks for looking into it. The settings are the same beside that the "Audio Channels " was set to stereo instead of auto. I have changed that but it’s only a pcm setting right?

My Plex HTPC Logs:

Well Im gonna thoroughly reinstall my drivers again. The GPU is the only thing I’ve changed lately.

Meanwhile I’m gonna just stick to Plex HTPC.

i seem to have a similar problem suddenly.
but only with dts audio.

Connection to my avr seems to be lost / stuttering
and no audio.
i disabled dts passthrough and got audio. (Emulated bei avr)

VLC DTS works fine.

logs included.
Thank you

similar problem here, got an update to plex for windows yesterday and anything with DD has no audio and DD+ has a stutter to the audio, the video plays smooth on both. anything with AAC plays fine.
if i go into settings and disable the passthrough for DD & DD+ the audio play fine, is there a way to roll back to an earlier version currently on Version 1.63.2.3496-dcd49879

edit: just tried plex htpc version and passthrough is working

Also here.
After updating Plex, the sound muted.

I am having the same issue. the htcp app works correctly. after messing around the amp will say its getting DD but still have no sound and not switch over to saying atmos . before that it was trans-coding or not passing through audio at all. also having issues with the LG TV app trying to trans-code when it shouldn’t need to. started today

I just downgraded to 1.6.1 from 11th of January and DTS is working again.

you should find the older executables in:
C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Plex\cache\updates

Just remember to disable automatic updates

Good idea. I’ve also downgraded plex. Works now fine for me again.

I have the same problem since 1.63.2 version was released. It looks like the pass-through signal is dropping since on my sound system the Dolby logo is flickering when playing anything in 5.1

We have pulled 1.63.2 from the downloads. This makes the previous version, 1.62.2 as the one the download page offers. You can download it from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app
